The Thailand Trade and Economic Office (Thai Office) informed major travel agencies on the 27th that starting October 1st, aside from the 100 daily individual applications, all Thai visa applications would need to be outsourced to VFS Global (visa center) for processing, along with an added agency fee of NT$470, sparking dissatisfaction among Taiwanese. The Thai Office did a complete turnaround and announced on the 29th that the process will remain unchanged — no fee hike！

The implied price hike for Thai visas, once announced, immediately drew backlash from major travel agencies and the public, with even calls to boycott travel to Thailand. Within just two days, the Thai Office issued a brief statement clarifying that the procedures for applying for tourist visas remain the same as before, with no changes, and that future adjustments to Thai visa applications will be further studied with relevant authorities.

The Thai Office, seemingly under pressure from various sectors, announced that the process will remain unchanged — there’s no need to go through a visa center to apply for a visa. Individual Thai visa applications will still cost NT$1,200, while those applied for via travel agencies are priced around NT$1,500 in the market. As for whether there will be any other changes in the future, it remains to be seen.
