The annual "Taiwan LGBTQ+ Pride Parade" is set to take place this Saturday (the 27th). Following last year’s record-breaking turnout of 123,000 participants, this year is expected to reach new heights. According to Airbnb data, hotel bookings in the Greater Taipei area this week have already increased by nearly 20% compared to regular days. This shows that the Pride Parade, as the largest LGBTQ+ rights movement in Asia, has not only attracted international visitors to Taiwan in recent years but has also sparked a “rainbow tourism boom.”

As of the 24th, the number of travelers booking accommodations in the Greater Taipei area this week has surpassed 16,000 and continues to rise. The booking hotspot map also reveals that the Pride Parade has unexpectedly brought another wave of “rainbow tourism business” to the Greater Taipei region.

Compared to the average weekly bookings, the Greater Taipei area has seen a significant increase of over 19% in accommodations booked during the week of the Pride Parade. International travelers often prefer unique lodging experiences and use them as an opportunity to connect with locals. Compared to conventional accommodation options, this provides them more chances to engage with Taiwan’s LGBTQ+ community and deeply experience the country’s more inclusive social atmosphere—more so than in other parts of Asia.
