Before we knew it, October was almost here, and the most anticipated events of the year are, of course, the haunted houses at the two major theme parks. Today, I got an early sneak peek at three terrifying haunted houses at Ocean Park: Escape from The Walking Dead, H15, and Haunted Puppet Workshop — each one was absolutely frightening. The model who came along with me kept screaming non-stop the whole time, either covering her ears and eyes or clinging tightly to me. By the last haunted house, she was almost hoarse from all the shrieking. Unexpectedly, the most fun of the day wasn’t going through the haunted houses — it was watching her reactions!
Escape from The Walking Dead:
As a die-hard fan of The Walking Dead, I had high expectations for “Escape from The Walking Dead.” The atmosphere inside the haunted house was tense, giving off the feeling of being trapped in a zombie-infested city. The set design closely resembled scenes from the TV show, which was truly chilling — especially when we reached the town prison. I was scared half to death when a “zombie” suddenly jumped out, and I almost dropped my camera on the floor!
H15:
Themed around the “first seven days after death” (头七), participants lie on a bier the entire time and cannot move. A coroner leads you into the mourning hall to begin the ritual of viewing the deceased, followed by a 10-minute simulation of the post-death “first seven” process. The sound effects throughout the house are highly immersive, and there are multi-sensory scares including freezing cold, intense heat, and even water sprays. Going through a haunted house without being able to move freely made the experience especially intense.
Participants must fill out a registration form online in advance to enter the house, with a maximum of four people per registration.

Haunted Puppet Workshop:
The setting is a puppeteer’s workshop, but the cute puppets inside hide deadly secrets — every smiling face conceals a sinister spirit. Though this haunted house isn’t as frightening as the first two, it still has some scream-worthy designs. One highlight is the set decoration, featuring many vintage toys. If you’re lucky enough not to be too scared to open your eyes, be sure to take a good look around!
