Our family visited Hokkaido in Japan for the first time. On this trip, we were also accompanied by two friends whose kids are around the same age as Alfred. To make it easier to take care of the children, we decided to explore the area by car. Winter in Hokkaido is truly beautiful, and we also noticed that the roads here are very straight, often stretching endlessly toward the horizon. Moreover, Hokkaido is so vast that driving to each attraction takes quite a long time, so if you're planning to explore like we did by self-driving, be sure to carefully plan your itinerary and time accordingly.
One of the must-do winter experiences in Hokkaido that I highly recommend is visiting Asahiyama Zoo to see the King Penguin Parade. Asahikawa’s Asahiyama Zoo is the northernmost zoo in Japan and also one of the country’s most popular zoos, especially ideal for family trips. Not only does it offer a wide variety of animals and beautiful surroundings, but what makes its exhibits special is how they allow you to get close to the animals without disturbing them. Both adults and children will have a great time.
