When it comes to Indonesia, most people only think of sunshine and beaches. But beyond the well-known tropical vibes, there are many hidden natural wonders. Recently, a pine forest located in the mountainous area near Yogyakarta — “Pinus Pengger” — has gone viral online and become a hot spot for Instagram check-ins!
Here, there are two large decorations entirely made of tree branches: the “Giant’s Hand” and the “Hollow Pyramid House.” They are situated on the mountainside, where visitors can climb up onto the “Giant’s Hand” and enjoy breathtaking mountain views from above. In the morning, you can admire the sea of clouds here, and in the evening, watch the sunset, making it a new local landmark. At night, the fingers are fitted with reflective metal plates, which shine brilliantly against the backdrop of Yogyakarta’s city lights.
As for the pyramid-shaped house, it is designed to resemble a triangular rice ball made of branches, with a hollow center where visitors can step inside to take photos. Whether the background is the sky or the forest, it highlights the stark contrast between human insignificance and the grandeur of nature.
In addition, the Pinus Pengger forest features other seats and decorations made from thin branches. Though somewhat unusual in appearance, they blend seamlessly with the surroundings. The area enjoys its peak tourist season from April to November each year, when the pleasant climate attracts many for hiking and outdoor activities. Yogyakarta just got another great reason to visit!
