Autumn foliage season is here again！If you're looking to photograph autumn leaves, Japan and South Korea are among the most popular destinations, and the classic, traditional city of Kyoto is definitely one of the most beloved spots. With that in mind, this time FeverTravel has invited Raven, one of the top 10 best travel photographers in the world in 2016, to share his experiences traveling in Kyoto and to reveal some tips on capturing the beauty of autumn leaves!
As a travel photographer, Raven has visited Kyoto countless times and is very familiar with the area. This year, he will even team up with the travel platform Guyguide to lead a trip to Kyoto. To capture a stunning set of autumn leaf photos, Raven prefers using an ultra-wide-angle lens because it allows him to include both the temple and the surrounding natural scenery in the frame, giving the photo a strong Japanese aesthetic. Additionally, Raven also reminds everyone that both the leaves still on the trees and those fallen on the ground have their own charm, and you can use techniques like telephoto or macro to create special effects.

And when it comes to night photography, most people would typically use a tripod. But during the peak season for viewing illuminated autumn leaves in Japan, crowds are often so large that tripod use is sometimes prohibited due to crowd control. So what can you do? Raven suggests using ISO 800 and an aperture of f/2.8–4 when shooting handheld; choose a shutter speed between 1/50 and 1/250. If it’s windy, you’ll need an even faster shutter speed, otherwise the leaves may come out blurry.
