Taiwan is a small island with vast mountain ranges. Whether you’re hiking for health or to enjoy sunrises, moonlit nights, or scenic views, climbing to high altitudes has become a popular travel activity. With autumn and winter approaching, watching the sea of clouds from high ground has captured everyone’s attention. The dreamy beauty of the sea of clouds cannot be fully captured in photos. Below, we recommend 10 high-altitude spots where you can personally witness the breathtaking beauty of the sea of clouds this autumn and winter.
Autumn is a warm, cool, and romantic season. As cold fronts sweep through, temperatures in Taiwan drop, and the influx of moisture brought by these fronts flows through various valleys, giving rise to majestic and picturesque seas of clouds. When a cold wave arrives, its intensity often correlates with the grandeur of the sea of clouds. Drastic climate changes are one of the key factors behind the beauty of the sea of clouds, making the sea of clouds during autumn and winter the most stunning and worthwhile to view all year round.

Known as one of Taiwan’s Eight Scenic Spots, the Alishan Sea of Clouds, while present year-round, is best viewed in autumn and winter. The Glass Light Season of the Cloud Waterfall is another highlight. At night, the hazy colors created by the refraction of lights are irresistibly captivating.
