Cinque Terre in Italy, located along the coast of the Liguria region in the province of La Spezia, refers collectively to five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. In 1997, Cinque Terre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in 1999, it was designated as the Parco Nazionale delle Cinque Terre (Cinque Terre National Park).

It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes by car from Nice. After having lunch in Genoa, Italy, we drove for another 1.5 hours to reach Riomaggiore in Cinque Terre. We had arranged to meet the host of our guesthouse at the entrance of the village. After parking the car, we checked in.

Most of the villages in Cinque Terre are small, and cars are only allowed in during specific times. However, it’s only a 400-meter walk from the parking area to the seaside.

And Linzilingzi stayed in this pink house. She booked it half a year ago—the accommodations in Cinque Terre get fully booked very quickly!

■ Name: Case Vacanze Scorci Di Mare
■ Address: Via San Giacomo 82, Riomaggiore, 19017, Italia

The charm of Riomaggiore lies in the harmonious coexistence between people and nature. It has charming alleyways full of Italian character while retaining the simple, rustic feel of a fishing village. There is an unassuming post office in town, located down a back street and a bit hard to find. If you want to send a letter, just ask the locals for directions!

Originally, the guesthouse owner recommended a restaurant to us. The price and view were quite good, but when we got there, it was already closed because we had toured too late and missed dinner. In the end, we chose the seaside restaurant right across from the guesthouse. As soon as you step out onto the beach in Riomaggiore, you’ll see the only shop there—that’s the restaurant.

I loved this Italian-style seaside restaurant and enjoyed an unforgettable and romantic evening.

We ordered anchovies, a local specialty, served with spaghetti that was cooked a bit al dente. But mixed with the anchovies and tomato-based seasonings, the flavors of the anchovies and tomatoes really stood out. Although it was a bit salty, overall the pasta was quite good. Around HK$100.

We also added a seafood platter, which let us sample a variety of sweet local shrimp, chewy squid rings, and other seasonal seafood—all for about HK$300. A super value sensory experience.

Manarola is just a 3-minute drive from Riomaggiore. The train station is within the village, so you can start strolling around as soon as you get off the train. Compared to Riomaggiore, Manarola is larger and has all kinds of shops selling olive oil, fruit wine, and specialty souvenirs. But what fascinated Linzilingzi the most was the local specialty lemon liqueur—she bought a bottle to take home and enjoy slowly!

Linzilingzi recommends that if you have enough time, you should spend a night in Manarola among the Cinque Terre villages. Don’t forget to bring your swimsuit to take a dip!
