Hidden in a quiet alley off Zhongshan Road, there is a small and lovely boutique inn called Beijiguang Light Inn. The owner, who loves traveling, opened the first backpacker hostel in Penghu. Due to its simple, approachable, and laid-back style, it became a must-stay for many foreign travelers. Later, when the owner came to Hualien, they fell in love with the slow pace and relaxed vibe here, and chose to settle down as well.
So when you step into Beijiguang Light Inn, you can feel a very relaxing and cozy atmosphere. The small hosts will carefully introduce you to Hualien and local delicacies, but won’t disturb you too much. Backpacker dorm beds have personal curtains for privacy, while double rooms feature a simple and cute pastel blue and pink color scheme. Occasionally chat with other backpackers in the lobby or sit down to write memories of Hualien—it feels just like home.

Located on the way to Hualien Railway Station’s back entrance, Hualien Qinglü Youth Hostel is also a distinctive youth hostel that has been in Hualien for just a year or two. It originally started in Taipei, including locations in Beitou and Jiufen. With its friendly and casual backpacker vibe, it attracts many foreign backpackers. On the hostel’s Facebook page, you can often find stories shared by travelers, making it a very warm and welcoming place.
Travelers can read books, drink tea, or chat in the lobby. Even if you do nothing else, you can still enjoy Hualien’s leisurely and relaxing vibe. The wooden furnishings and beds in the rooms, combined with large windows letting in natural light, give a fresh and carefree feeling.

Of course, when visiting Hualien, you shouldn’t just stay in Hualien City. We especially recommend taking a drive along Provincial Highway 11 southward, where you’ll find many fun Hualien attractions, such as Hualien Ocean Park and Niushan Huting. If you prefer quieter spots, you can also explore Shiti Ping Recreation Area to see the ocean-facing terraced fields, or take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee before moving on.
Driving along Provincial Highway 11 will take you through many indigenous villages along this coastal road, including the Jingpu Tribe, which still preserves many traditional customs. During the Harvest Festival each year, ceremonies of gratitude and celebration are held in the square facing Xibulan Island. On regular days, there are also traditional activities such as fishing and archery, all of which warmly welcome travelers to join in.
If you enjoy learning about or participating in these deep cultural experiences, consider staying overnight at Blue Coral B&B in Fengbin. Fall asleep embraced by the sea and wake up to a tranquil morning. Take your time and enjoy your holiday at this Pacific resort destination, recognized by TIME magazine as Asia’s most underrated.

Besides the coastal views along Provincial Highway 11, Provincial Highway 9 in the Huatung Valley also boasts many scenic spots worth seeing, such as Fuli, where golden needle flowers bloom every August, and Ruisui, perfect for hot spring bathing in autumn and winter. If you love mountains, forests, and plains, this highway is a great choice to explore.
Boundary Huadong is located near Fuli Station, just a 5-minute walk away—very convenient. The B&B gives off a warm overall vibe, featuring a bright and airy lobby, wooden decor and furnishings, and spacious, comfortable rooms with large floor-to-ceiling windows that create a delightful, homely atmosphere.
In addition to accommodation, Boundary Huadong also offers meals such as rice and hot pot. Even if you’re not staying overnight, you can stop by for a coffee after visiting Fulii!

The Traveler's Inn is a chain of homestays in Taitung, among which the Tiehua Cultural & Creative Hall features a mainly wooden-style interior that gives off a particularly bright and clean vibe. The former Taitung Bus Terminal was located at Tiehua Village, so The Traveler's Inn uses this as its theme, designing each floor corridor to represent a Taitung attraction spot. You could easily spend half a day just taking photos in the hotel itself.
The nearby Tiehua Village is an even more must-visit spot in Taitung. It’s a place co-created by local musicians and artists, featuring everything from handmade crafts to a flea market – all part of what makes the music community of Tiehua Village unique.

As soon as you step into The Gaya Hotel, you can clearly feel the high-end quality of a five-star accommodation. One of the most unique features is that the exterior of the hotel retains part of the original "hole house" design from when it was the Taitung Tax Office. Inside, there’s a strong traditional Chinese aesthetic — with bamboo in the lobby and cafe, calligraphy brushes on the bar, and verses by Hu Shi on the ceiling — all of which give Gaya Hotel its distinctive charm.
And when it comes to vacationing, the infinity pool and luxury Western cuisine are not to be missed. Gaya Hotel’s dishes use locally sourced ingredients from Taitung, making it a resort hotel with true inner character.

Shu She Homestay is a white, irregular-shaped building nestled in the woods. Inside the white structure is a wooden-style interior with a very fresh overall design. Although there are only three rooms in total, each is thoughtfully designed, allowing guests to comfortably enjoy the natural scenery outside and the sounds of birds and insects.
Additionally, the restaurant next to Shu She Homestay is an open space. Whether you're chatting, reading, or simply doing nothing, you’ll occasionally catch the faint smell of bread. Why not enjoy a cup of coffee with the owner’s wood-fired bread, and quietly spend an afternoon like this — a rare treat in everyday life.

Break an Egg? The homestay chose this playful name with a deeper meaning. "Break an Egg" (Dagedan) means "to sleep" in the Paiwan language, expressing the hope that guests will relax and enjoy a good night’s rest. Run by two young people, the Break an Egg Seaside Inn shows thoughtful details and warmth from the small lawn and reception area, while the friendly greetings from the owners and staff make guests feel right at home. Also, don’t forget to enjoy some desserts at the reception area after check-in.
What makes it special is that there are no TVs in the rooms. The inn owners believe that to truly relax and enjoy a vacation, guests should experience local culture and explore the surroundings, so a TV isn’t a necessity for a holiday. At Break an Egg Seaside Inn, you can also write a postcard to yourself or a long-lost friend, preserving memories and spreading joy.

Bawong Bong Villa is the only private seaside villa on the East Coast. It is named after the mountain surrounded by the Kanadalongxi and Zhinawangxi rivers, which is called “Bawong Bong.” Though the villa’s location is a bit remote and less convenient, don’t worry — Bawong Bong Villa provides a shuttle service with a dedicated driver.
The most appealing feature of Bawong Bong Villa is the “ocean view.” It only takes 30 steps from the villa to the beach, offering quick and easy access to nature. For those who prefer to stay quietly in the villa, you can also soak up the sun on the balcony, enjoy the sea breeze along with the ocean view, or simply lounge in bed while still taking in the coastal scenery — what a relaxing lifestyle.
