Japan is home to all kinds of shrines and temples, from small prayer shrines to those dedicated to beauty, money, health, and even quirky ones like flight shrines and air shrines... They attract not only locals but also tourists.
When it comes to the "most colorful" shrine, which one do you think it is? A recent Twitter post by a Japanese user features a shrine in Kyushu that is not only stunning but also carries a touch of mystery—stepping into it feels like entering another world.

This shrine is called Kamishikimi Kumanoima Shrine, located in the mountainous region of Aso District, Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu. Getting there requires taking the JR Takamori Line to its terminal station, and then walking over 5 kilometers from the station—truly an "off-the-beaten-path" destination. Although reaching this place is much more challenging than visiting famous shrines in Kyoto or other big cities, the photos taken here are absolutely worth it, especially the dreamlike scenery.
The shrine’s torii gate and the trees surrounding it make the scene feel like another world. Of course, one can imagine it’s the perfect setting for ghost stories and shrines at night. Another Twitter user described the pristine forest here as offering a true sense of eternal tranquility.
