Photographer and filmmaker Elia Saikaly released a Timelapse short film titled “Everest,” capturing the nighttime starry sky of the Himalayas, the “roof of the world.”
While other climbers slept, Saikaly set up several Canon cameras to shoot throughout the dark and freezing night. The equipment included a 1D C, two Canon EOS 5D Mark III cameras, a Canon EOS 5DS R, Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 L II USM, 16mm f/2.8, Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, and Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM.
Saikaly said this Timelapse was shot at an altitude of up to 6,200 meters, with views of Mount Everest. He had never seen the Milky Way appear so clear, vivid, and dynamic. The cameras, shutters, batteries — and even the person — froze, and the high altitude weakened his body, while staying up all night to shoot demanded great effort.

This is not Saikaly’s first time filming a Timelapse in the Himalayas. Five years ago, a short film he made of Mount Everest garnered over 1 million views.
