Many people don’t realize that some techniques are also important during camping.

Going on an exciting hiking or trekking trip, the time when you set up camp and rest each evening is often the most relaxing part of the day. But many people don’t realize that some techniques are also important during camping.

In summary, there are 7 good habits you should develop when camping:

1. When setting up your tent, if the wind isn’t strong, you can use only tent stakes and skip the guylines, as ropes can easily trip others. If the wind is really strong, make sure to keep a safe distance from other tents when using guylines.

2. Align your tent door in the same direction as those of your neighbors. This way, in case of nighttime emergencies, you won’t bump into each other, increasing your chances of escaping safely.

3. Before going to bed, put your belongings in your backpack, and place the backpack inside the tent—especially food. This prevents you from losing items in the morning and also keeps animals away. If food isn’t stored properly but just left in the tent, it can easily attract animals that might chew through the tent.

4. Keep your headlamp in a fixed spot, preferably where you can find it even without looking. This habit proves very useful in case of unexpected nighttime incidents.

5. Place your knife and headlamp in roughly the same location, which helps protect both your teammates and yourself.

6. Wrap your shoes in a plastic bag and place them inside the tent, ideally where your feet will be when sleeping.

7. After setting up your tent, whether you’re inside or not, always make sure to zip up the tent door.
