As summer vacation draws to a close, are you still wondering where to go? Why not get close to nature and take a light trip to Shuangxi? Located at the northeastern tip of New Taipei City, compared to the bustling city, Shuangxi is like a hidden paradise. The area retains the most natural pastoral scenery and historical relics. Stepping into Shuangxi, you can also feel a strong sense of community warmth. With culture, beautiful scenery, and delicious food all in one place, come and explore this hidden mountain town now！
Without excessive development, Shuangxi still retains intact natural ecology, and located in Taiping Village,““Wu Family Brothers’ Leticia Organic Farm”is run jointly by the five Wu brothers after their retirement as they returned to their hometown. They insist on not using pesticides and adopt organic farming methods to cultivate shiitake mushrooms on logs, wood ear mushrooms, green bamboo shoots, pumpkins, and more.
When the seasons change, they use a “cover cropping” method to rotate farmland cultivation. Wu Hengyi, one of the Wu brothers, said that their highest ideal is to enable this land to be sustainably managed.

The farm is rich in ecological diversity. Not only can you see mosses like feltleaf and Echeveria, but there is also a Twelve Zodiac Path designed by the Wu brothers, featuring plants such as wild boar liver herb and dog liver herb arranged in sequence, which is very unique. In addition, due to well-preserved natural protection, you might occasionally spot Formosan serows on the ecological trails, hence Leticia Organic Farm is also known as the “Home of the Formosan Serow.”

There are many farming households near Taiping Village. Along the way, there are quite a few “honesty shops,” where farmers place their homegrown produce in the shops with prices marked, and passing tourists pick what they want and put the money in a coin box. This trading method not only allows you to feel the simple and honest folkways of the farming community, but it is also something you absolutely won’t see in greater Taipei！

Come to Waigan Village’s“No-Silver Iron House — Houyu Farm”, where the owner, Zhou Mingqi, was originally an artist. Through tea drinking, he began to understand the relationship between land, food, and people. Seeing the beautiful mountains, waters, and natural ecology of Shuangxi, he chose to start slow-fermenting enzymes in a farm by the stream. Zhou Mingqi said, “Anything you make must be connected to the land to have warmth and a human touch.” Therefore, he uses locally grown fruits and vegetables from Shuangxi, combining the local soil, climate, and other factors, to brew enzymes in the most natural way possible.

Zhou Mingqi is also quite particular about food. Together with a German chef, he developed dishes that combine German bread with local Taiwanese vegetable pads, scallions, and his own enzymes, blending local and international flavors. Zhou Mingqi said that food is a source of what the body needs, and selecting ingredients is a crucial part, which is the same spirit he upholds in enzyme brewing.

The biggest feature of Shuangxi is its century-old poetry recitation culture. A local poetry society has even been established to showcase the beauty of Shuangxi through poetry chanting. The New Taipei City Government has specially designed the “Loving Shuangxi · Leisurely Little Journey” itinerary for Shuangxi, offering four types of tours for visitors to sign up for: “The Literary Youth’s Flow,” “The Storytelling Fields,” “The Home of the Formosan Serow,” and “The Sentiment of Mountains and Waters,” allowing visitors to better understand the mountain town of Shuangxi through its history, scenery, and people.
