A dazzling “super moon” rises from the water in rainbow hues — enjoy lakeside night views during the Mid-Autumn Festival in Seoul

Starting from September 1, the Jamsil Seokchon Lake in Seoul, South Korea, will see a “rainbow super moon” rising from the lake every evening“Rainbow Super Moon”In celebration of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, this 20-meter-wide giant moon will illuminate the lakeside landscape. This is also a large-scale installation artwork following the 2014 “Yellow Duck” and the 2015 “1600 Pandas.”

The “super moon” was designed by the U.S.-based public art initiative Friends with You, with the theme of the selfless light of the moon bringing comfort to those who feel lonely at night. The super moon rises over the water surface after 6 PM and sets after 10 PM during the exhibition period. The internal lighting changes into seven different colors, hence the name “rainbow moon.”

Seoul’s Jamsil Seokchon Lake is also known as Songpa Ferry Park, which hosts a festival every April during the flowering season. During the cherry blossom season, a variety of cultural and artistic performances and experience activities are held, along with food zones and photo spots, allowing visitors and locals to leisurely enjoy the spring feast by the lake. Performances include cherry blossom concerts and stage shows, as well as portrait cartoons, face painting, cherry blossom sketching, and photography exhibitions.

At Seokchon Lake, you can also see the Lotte Castle from Lotte World, and nearby attractions include Seoul Playground, Rose Garden, Waterfront Stage, Songpa Ferry Rest Area, Meeting Plaza, walking trails, and observation platforms, providing plenty of fun for both tourists and locals around the lake.
