UO Airlines unveils the world’s first “Cool Penguin livery aircraft” – flights to Penghu start Sept. 13

UO Airlines has unveiled its first livery aircraft, the “Cool Penguin Holiday Plane,” which made its debut on the 5th. Professional engineer Hsiao Tai-long from UO Airlines explained that the Cool Penguin Holiday Plane features a livery applied to an ATR72-600 passenger aircraft, with about 70% of the painting work already done. The aircraft is set to make its maiden voyage to Penghu on September 13. This is not only the eighth Sanrio-themed livery aircraft under the Evergreen Group, but also the world’s first Cool Penguin livery plane.

UO Airlines stated that the Cool Penguin was chosen as the theme for this livery aircraft because it is a lively and distinctive character capable of playful expressions, making it highly suitable for conveying the spirit of holiday travel. Amidst a cute and healing atmosphere, the Cool Penguin Holiday Plane will take passengers to Penghu Magong, a popular destination for island getaways.

The livery work on the Cool Penguin Holiday Plane has now entered its fifth day, with around 70% completion, and is expected to be finished by the 11th. Hsiao Tai-long noted that the latest aviation paint is being used for this Cool Penguin livery aircraft, with the entire process employing full-spray painting techniques.

What were some of the particular challenges in this livery project? Hsiao Tai-long pointed out that the aircraft features not only the main character, the Cool Penguin, but also more intricate designs such as hibiscus flowers and palm trees that complement the holiday vibe. The different flowers overlap and feature varying colors, so special care had to be taken during the process. This includes first using moldable tape to outline the edges of the patterns, then securing them again with paper tape. Before painting, only the areas to be colored are left exposed, while all other sections are fully covered to prevent paint bleed.

The Cool Penguin Holiday Plane will make its maiden flight to Penghu Magong on September 13, with two daily round-trip flights between Songshan and Penghu Magong starting from the 14th.
