Mr. Lin, owner of the Crunchy Scallion Rolls, shared that he used to work in the tech industry but quit his job to start this business because of his love for scallion rolls. He said it took about six months to develop the flavor profile of the rolls. To ensure the best quality for customers, he pays close attention to every component—from the roll’s outer layer to the scallions and the pepper used.

“I don’t want to sell any dish I’d hesitate to eat myself,” Mr. Lin explained. For instance, the spring roll wrappers used for the scallion rolls are handmade and freshly rolled by a master chef. The scallions filling the rolls are specially selected from certified Sanxing scallions produced by the Yilan Sanxing District Farmers’ Association. Meanwhile, the pepper sprinkled on top is a house-made blend made from about ten types of Chinese herbs, giving it a subtly distinct aroma. Every detail reflects the owner’s dedication to ingredient quality.

Upon tasting, the freshly fried roll’s crust is thin and crisp. With one bite, the umami of the scallions bursts in your mouth, while the pepper, faintly fragrant with the scent of Chinese herbs, acts as the perfect complement, adding a rich layer of flavor. The shop is also generous with the filling—in a roll approximately 17cm long, nearly saturated with scallions and minced meat. All of this for just 35 NTD, a true budget price that leaves you feeling full afterward.

Also recommended is the shop’s homemade plum juice, brewed daily and lightly sweetened with rock sugar. Its mildly tangy and refreshing taste perfectly cuts through the richness of the rolls, followed by a pleasant aftertaste—another must-buy item.
