The representative attraction of Kyoto’s Arashiyama, the “Bamboo Grove Path,” features towering green bamboo stretching endlessly along both sides of the road, forming a natural, tranquil green tunnel. But you don’t have to travel all the way to Japan to see such breathtaking scenery — Taiwan has 3 hidden bamboo grove spots that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a movie world, offering a magical green romance.

1. Nantou, Lugu Township — Baxianshan Ancient Trail’s Wan Nian Heng Qu
The Wan Nian Heng Qu section of the Baxianshan Ancient Trail is located near the Phoenix Valley Bird Park Ecological Area. Originally stretching 125 kilometers and crossing the Central Mountain Range, most of the trail has now been damaged.

As soon as you step into the Wan Nian Heng Qu ancient path, you feel as if you’ve fallen into a serene emerald world. Stone steps divide the bamboo forest in two, with towering green bamboo shooting straight up, crisscrossing gracefully along both sides of the path. The unique atmosphere helps you rediscover a sense of peace long forgotten.

2. Nantou, Lugu Township — Ancient Battlefield of the Moso Bamboo Forest
Also located in Lugu Township, the Ancient Battlefield of the Moso Bamboo Forest has recently become a hot topic among netizens as a hidden bamboo sea destination. It was once the site of a prolonged battle where Lin Shuang-wen, a key figure of the Tiandihui, led his members against 9,000 Qing troops. Later, local residents set up a chessboard tableau here to commemorate the tragic heroism.

But what captivates even more are the dense bamboo groves that have grown over time. Stone paths wind through the bamboo, with sunlight filtering through the leaves, creating alternating light and shadow that resembles a classical ink landscape painting — making it a popular destination.

3. Chiayi — Ruili Green Tunnel
Meishan Township’s Ruili isn’t just known for its romantic wisteria blooms; it also features a roughly 2-kilometer-long bamboo green tunnel. The winding road extends deep into the bamboo forest, undulating with the slope. The tall bamboo forms a natural barrier blocking the scorching sun while adding an old-world charm reminiscent of films like “Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.”
