Shenzhen, China, Dec. 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
On December 23, 2014, Russian airline JSC Aeroflot - Russian Airlines(hereinafter referred to as Aeroflot) held a business roundtable and discussion session in Shenzhen, China, aiming to strengthen its position in the Asian region, develop cooperation in the aviation industry between Russia and China, and comprehensively advance commercial and tourism ties between the two countries.
During the meeting, market experts provided a detailed description of Aeroflot’s opportunities in the Chinese market. Alexander Lukashin, Head of International PR at Aeroflot’s Marketing Communications Department, emphasized that China is one of Aeroflot’s most important markets, with Beijing and Shanghai being the two most popular flight destinations. Moscow now offers convenient connections to the United States, Europe, and Asia, potentially saving passengers up to two hours of flight time. Aeroflot is expanding its fleet and has established a new hub at Terminal D of Moscow SheremetyevoAirport, which has been in operation since 2009. When designing Aeroflot’s route network, the volume of transit passengers traveling to and from China is a crucial consideration. Key transit destinations include St. Petersburg, Rome, Athens, London, Paris, Milan, Madrid, and Barcelona. Aeroflot is now planning to increase the number of flights on its most popular route between Beijing and Moscow to up to 17 flights per week in 2015. Nikita Krichevsky,Nikita Krichevskiya member of the Aeroflot Public Council, Doctor of Natural Sciences, and professor, also attended the meeting. He particularly stressed the need to strengthen cooperation, especially when political and economic pressures are exerted on Russia. He stated: “We must not forget to develop trade and tourism relations between our two countries. There is no doubt that in the coming years, the common interests of our business communities and citizens will only grow. And all of this will require more efforts from Aeroflot and the Chinese side to meet the needs of our peoples. If we fail to do so, -- then other competitors will step in.” Aeroflot is the flag carrier of Russia and the largest airline group in Europe. On the occasion of its 90th anniversary in 2013, Aeroflot carried 2,09 million passengers, setting a record that no other Russian airline has been able to match.
