Every snapshot looks like a postcard shot here — how could you miss such a place as Chishang when visiting Taitung?

Most people who come to Taitung head straight for the city area. Unless it’s harvest season for the rice paddies, most wouldn’t specifically visit Chishang, let alone stay there. But this sparsely populated township at the border between Taitung County and Hualien County actually holds picturesque corners that make you want to take photos at every turn. From the moment you step off the train until you leave, every second feels like you’re immersed in a living painting.
Chishang Station
Traveling to eastern Taiwan, enjoying the continuous mountain ranges and views of rice fields along the way is one of the most beautiful memories of the trip. As soon as you exit Chishang Station, the Central Mountain Range lies ahead. On a clear day, the blue sky, white clouds, and the classic Taroko Express train create a picture-perfect scene. Watching the train slowly pull into the platform, it's hard not to want to linger at the station a little longer.

Fuhara Level Crossing
In Taitung, the blue sky, white clouds, and green mountains serve as the perfect backdrop. Even an ordinary railway level crossing becomes like a cinematic scene — so surreal and beautiful, not less impressive than the famous "Slam Dunk" level crossing in Japan.

Baman Boulevard (伯朗大道)
You can’t say you’ve been to Chishang if you haven’t visited Baman Boulevard. Whether the rice paddies are golden yellow or lush green, on a cloudless sunny day or a misty overcast one, this view is poetic no matter the angle or time of day. After taking all your perfect photos, remember to pause and soak in this scenery that makes Taiwanese people proud.

Dapo Pond (大坡池)
Want to escape the hustle and bustle and breathe some fresh air? Take a walk or ride a bike around Dapo Pond. Stroll along the endless lotus ponds with a gentle breeze, letting your mind calm down, or leisurely cycle along tree-lined paths to enjoy the slow pace you won't find in the city — these are some of the best ways to experience Chishang. Of course, it’s also perfect for snapping a series of fresh forest-themed photos.

Wuzhou Theater (五洲戏院)
Though this abandoned Wuzhou Theater no longer screens films, the local community has renovated it to preserve its historical charm. The building now has a clean facade while retaining the flair of the 1950s. The theater’s red door and hand-painted movie posters are eye-catching, and with the open, undisturbed surroundings, every photo taken here turns out full of character.

Small Roads and Buildings
What makes Chishang so appealing is that it hasn’t been overly developed. Most buildings here are no taller than three stories, and their weathered exteriors add a touch of authentic “Taiwanese flavor.” Look up anywhere, and you’ll see vast mountains surrounded by drifting clouds. With such stunning backdrops, every corner of Chishang is incredibly photogenic and charming.
