“Gung Lok,” which combines art, merchandise and fashion, and cuisine, breaks the mold of traditional cultural and creative restaurants. The operators boldly merged these three elements into one, successfully creating a buzz and attracting guests from three major demographics. The result is a bustling hub that represents an entirely new take on the Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng.

Located near Zhongshan and Shuanglian MRT stations, “Gung Lok” was jointly founded by a group of like-minded friends from Hong Kong. Not only does it bring authentic culinary skills from across the strait, but the restaurant also promotes humanities and arts within its space—offering diners the chance to enjoy their meals while appreciating small, rotating exhibitions hosted inside.

The interior decor is primarily wooden, complemented by brick walls and soft lighting. Many of the solid wood installations were created by the Hong Kong art team “Start From Zero,” known for their passion for design trends. Eager to collaborate, Gung Lok arranged for a large number of wooden pieces to be flown in from Hong Kong, giving the space a retro yet urban vibe—an industrial-style cultural and creative cha chaan teng was thus born.

Drawing inspiration from Hong Kong-style cuisine and adding their own creative twist, the chefs serve up mouthwatering dishes. The menu highlights classic Hong Kong dim sum, including locals’ all-time favorites like pineapple buns, toasties, various types of toast, and frozen drinks. For those who want more than just snacks, savory main meals are also available—often leading diners to casually order a whole tableful of treats.

It features freshly baked egg waffles drizzled with chocolate sauce, topped with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, and garnished with a few banana slices. This delightful combination delivers a sweet sensory explosion that has won over many girls. The slightly crispy, golden-brown egg waffles fill the air with aroma, and when paired with the ice cream, the unexpected contrast of hot and cold creates a uniquely satisfying texture.

The “Acai Bowl” and “Toastie Series” are also crowd favorites. The acai bowl features a blended acai base topped with wild berries, banana slices, kiwi slices, and granola. Beneath its dreamy color palette lies a wealth of nutrition, offering benefits like antioxidants and immune system support.

The toasties are fried until golden and crispy on the outside, with different exclusive sauces stuffed inside depending on the flavor. When split open, the molten sauce flows out like lava, revealing super rich, stretchy cheese. The combination of sweet, savory, and fragrant flavors keeps netizens coming back for more.

Committed to promoting culture and creativity, the operators frequently collaborate with various artists to host small exhibitions in the narrow hallway—such as white photography exhibitions and handmade toy displays. They also offer limited-time special meals tied to the current exhibitions.
