Taitung is the homeland of mountains and seas, and the sunrise and coastline at Taimali create a breathtaking seascape.

Dawn

For accommodation in Taimali, the top recommendation is [Dawn Resort Hotel]—the rooftop is the best trendy spot to watch the sunrise and stargaze. Not only is it just an 8-minute drive from Taimali Station, but the rooms also offer great views. The Millennium Dawn Memorial Park, where the annual international hot air balloon festival is held, is just a ten-minute walk from the hotel.

Come visit ‘King’s Racetrack’, home to Taiwan’s only three-wheeled drift go-karts. Dads and moms, bring your little racers to enjoy thrilling drifts and exciting slides together.

There are more diverse ways to enjoy Taitung—heading down to the southernmost parts is the latest trend. “Little Cluck” has handpicked ten new popular hidden gems. Quickly take notes and set off with us.

After the widening of Provincial Highway 9 along the South Loop Highway and the opening of the Jin'ao Viaduct, it has become one of the key tourism development areas in Taitung. Whether coming from Kaohsiung or Hualien, you can enjoy the magnificent mountain scenery and the azure Pacific Ocean at the same time. Whether driving or taking the bus, you’ll feel like the mountains and sea are right next to you.

1.Jin'ao Viaduct
Since its opening, the viaduct has shortened the drive from Xianglan to Duoliang on the South Loop Highway. With a bridge deck around 10 stories high, you can gaze out at the ocean views from above and enjoy the breathtaking scenery where sea meets sky.

2. Soak in a Primitive Hot Spring: Jin'ao Wild Creek Hot Spring /Cold Spring

Though not as famous as Zhiben Hot Springs, it remains unspoiled by excessive commercialization, preserving its pristine beauty, which has made it a must-visit hidden gem on our private list.

Spring water emerges beside the riverbed, with billowing steam nestled next to babbling streams—a rare and wonderful sight. Soaking in the hot spring while listening to chirping insects and birdsong, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, is truly a delightful experience in nature.

3.Under the Jin'ao BridgeMysterious Beach of the Ruins
In 2014, during the construction of a bridge, a 1,600-year-old prehistoric site was discovered. This beach is incredibly beautiful, not easy to find, but absolutely worth visiting.
Take the train from Taitung Station to Jin'ao Station (4 stops), then walk left from the front of the train station, head in the direction of “Pacific Saltwater Hot Spring” and go toward the culvert.

This is also the stunning seaside section atop the Jin'ao Bridge.

4. Huayuan Bay: Driftwood-Carved Hearts and “Peace”
The South Loop Line is a scenic highway, and Huayuan Bay on the Taiwu Highway is renowned for its breathtaking beauty. Remember—do not drive down there; walking down is amazing, but if you drive down, your car might not make it back up (it’s also nicknamed the “Car-Eating Beach”).

5.Almost forgotten but the most beautiful in Taiwan: Duoliang Station?/strong>

6.Taiwan’s Version of Slam Dunk’s Crossing
After heading toward Taiwu Station on Provincial Highway 9, there’s another must-visit photo spot for anime fans.

7.Taiwu Golden Needle Mountain
From January to March, enjoy cherry and apricot blossoms; from April to May, see lilies; from April to July, witness swarms of fireflies; from late May to June, it’s hydrangea season; and from August to October, golden golden needle flowers bloom.

Located on Taiwu Mountain, it’s named for its abundant golden needle flowers. A 3,673-meter-long scenic trail is laid out along the ridge. Visitors can stroll along the trail, surrounded by flowers and trees, enjoying a baptism in nature.

Qing Shan Farm is also a great spot for flower viewing. It has a walking trail with an entrance fee of $40 per person, or you can sit in the open-air café, order a drink to meet the minimum spend, and enjoy the flowers directly.

8. Breathtaking SunriseMillennium Dawn Memorial Park

9. Light Sculpture Concert
Themed around “The Dawn of Taimali – Pacific Light Sculpture Concert,” this event takes place on the beach of Taimali, the hometown of dawn, where colorful hot air balloons welcome the first ray of sunlight rising over the Pacific Ocean. In addition to experiencing the awe-inspiring first light of day, the scenic views of the gem-like beach, the azure Pacific, and the illuminated hot air balloon sculptures allow everyone to witness the magical moment where hot air balloons meet the radiant Pacific sky. ????/strong>

10. Art Beyond the South – Land Art
Large-scale installation art created along Provincial Highway 9 and the South Loop route in Taitung
The artworks are spread across a wide area, including four townships: Daren, Dawu, Jinfeng, and Taimali. The Taitung County Government has organized a series of related art events, inviting 20 domestic and international artists from Italy, France, Thailand, and other countries to participate. Numerous installations have been set up along the Taitung coastline, aiming to allow more people to experience the natural beauty of the South Loop region.

Come explore Taitung on your next trip. Not only can you witness the beauty of Provincial Highway 9, but whether you want to immerse yourself in the romantic golden needle flower fields, cycle mountain trails with your kids, leisurely enjoy riverside scenery, play in the sand and surf at the beach, or visit indigenous art workshops to learn about local culture while taking part in unique activities, there’s something to satisfy every family’s travel needs and love for authentic local experiences.

Additionally, [Dawn Resort Hotel] has carefully selected three classic self-paid routes for you to experience:PrivateTaimali
For a half-day shuttle tour, the self-paid itinerary is $800 per person, with a minimum of four people to depart. This will take you deep into the hidden gems of Taimali to admire its unique scenery, as well as visit the secluded Golden Spring (participation includes a free hot spring voucher). Cool in summer, warm in winter, it’s truly a blissful experience—you don’t even need to think too hard to have a great time.
