Clouds are ever-changing—cumulus, cirrus, stratus... Each form is captivating. When you’re feeling down, just look up at the clouds, and your gloomy mood can vanish in an instant. Clouds have always been a beloved subject for artists. Shepherd of Clouds, the artist Zhang Zhen-gui, known as Taiwan’s most skilled watercolorist of clouds, will hold a nearly month-long solo exhibition at an art gallery in Neihu, Taipei. “I think the allure of clouds lies in their silence—they come and go quietly,” says Zhang Zhen-gui, who calls himself the Shepherd of Clouds. In terms of core themes and creative philosophy, his paintings“Beyond the Clouds” are presented in three forms: the Healing Series “Cloudscape of Timeless Mountains and Waters,” the “Midnight Blue” Series, and the Lyrical Abstract Series. The current exhibition features carefully selected works from the “Cloudscape of Timeless Mountains and Waters” series created over the past four years.

Zhang Zhen-gui explains that observing the moving clouds in his paintings—works with therapeutic qualities in terms of atmosphere, breadth, height, and temperature—expresses the bold presence of core values and emotions that have traversed millennia into the human realm. These pieces also reflect the tension and alienation in society and interpersonal landscapes, aiming to bring viewers a sense of healing and spiritual resonance through the artwork.
