If you’re in Okinawa, Japan, and craving a late-night snack, I think you absolutely can’t miss the “Kokusaidori Yatai Village” near Makishi Station. It’s the perfect late-night dining spot after exploring popular Okinawan attractions like Kokusaidori. Here, you’ll find all kinds of Okinawan dishes. Opened in June 2015, the “Kokusaidori Yatai Village” has quickly become one of the most beloved tourist spots in Okinawa!

In simple terms, it’s like our street food stalls, but more organized — these vendors are set up in small, individual spaces and gathered together to form the “Yatai Village”!

It only takes about 5 minutes to walk from Makishi Station to the “Kokusaidori Yatai Village.” However, it’s tucked away in an alley, so if you want to visit this Okinawan attraction, look carefully into the alleys — the entrance is quite visible and easy to spot.

Okinawa Attractions: Taste Okinawan Cuisine at Kokusai-dori Yatai Village & Experience the Lively Night Life

The Kokusaidori Yatai Village isn’t very large, but this small area is packed with 20 shops. In addition to local Okinawan cuisine, you’ll also find sushi, yakitori, and other great drinking food. Plus… if you’re in the mood for Western food or desserts, you can find those here too — it’s a pretty diverse Okinawan food destination.

At the entrance of this Okinawan attraction, there’s a guide that tells you which vendors are there and what kind of food they serve. To help you know what to expect before you go, I’ve summarized each shop’s info below for your reference:

1. Iron Pot Dining Tetsuo: Focuses on Okinawan-style sweets and ice cream.
2. Tsukiji Sora Sandaime: A sushi shop from Tokyo.
3. Aji no Bō: Specializes in teppanyaki, takoyaki, and other teppan dishes.
4. Karaage Manufacturing Lab: Primarily serves fried chicken.
5. TOMOGARA: Focuses on skewers and shochu.
6. Sumiyakiya Torisuke: Serves local chicken skewers (grilled meat skewers).
7. A Sign: Offers Okinawan Ishigaki beef steaks or burgers, as well as Agu pork burgers.
8. Ryukyu Shoku Sai YOSHI: Okinawan cuisine.
9. Yurari Achine 0?: Offers dishes with fresh seafood, vegetables, and also has draft beer.
10. Umi Shiromino: Tempura dishes.
11. Fishba 0?: Provides a variety of seafood and sashimi dishes.
12. HIROTO-YA: A Western-style izakaya, mainly serving yakitori and vegetables.

Honestly… I think you don’t really need to aim for any specific shop here, because every place is pretty busy. And to open a stall here, chefs have to be really skilled, otherwise they’d be outcompeted quickly — so the food at every stall is actually pretty good. Basically, just see which shop has an open seat and sit down.

Then pick a few dishes to try, wash it down with some local Okinawan draft beer, relax, chat, and enjoy the moment. After eating, hop to another shop, switch flavors up, and when you’re full and satisfied, head back to your hotel to rest — that’s the best way to do it. So~~ I’m not going to recommend any specific shop here, because that’s exactly how we enjoyed ourselves — having a casual food round!

While dining here, we also spotted street performers setting up stalls to draw portraits for tourists. There’s also a big stage area in the middle of the Yatai Village — we heard there are sometimes performances, though we didn’t catch any during our visit, which was a bit of a pity. But imagine dining while enjoying live performances — that would be such a laid-back and vacation-like vibe, truly a soul-soothing Okinawan attraction.

Essentially, the “Kokusaidori Yatai Village” is an Okinawan attraction that gets better as the night goes on. Many tourists come here for late-night eats, so if you enjoy a lively atmosphere, I’d suggest coming around 9:30 PM — you’ll find it packed with people.

If you’re just looking to eat, it’s better to come a bit earlier to avoid long waits at every stall. That said, since it’s a popular tourist spot, prices aren’t super cheap — they’re about the same as what you’d pay at nearby eateries in typical Okinawan attraction areas. So if you’re hoping for ultra-affordable and filling meals, you might be a little disappointed. But if you’re after a fun, vibrant atmosphere, this is the place to be.
