Does this place look a bit familiar? That’s right — it’s one of the filming locations for Wong Kar-wai’s movie “Chungking Express.” Friends of ours always make a pilgrimage here when visiting Hong Kong to recreate the iconic scene where the lead actress mimics Faye Wong’s moves.

The Central-Mid-Levels Escalator is the longest outdoor covered escalator system in the world. Since it operates in one direction only, it runs downhill toward Central from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM to accommodate residents heading down the hill, and uphill from 10:00 AM to midnight. We recommend visiting in the afternoon to avoid any issues with the direction of travel!

The Victoria Harbour night view, renowned as one of the world’s top three night scenes, is absolutely not to be missed. The editor strongly recommends heading up to Victoria Peak to enjoy the night view. Unlike the Tsim Sha Tsui area of the Kowloon Peninsula, another popular night view spot, the three-dimensional view of the high-rise buildings before your eyes is truly breathtaking—it's an experience you have to witness in person to feel its magic.

At the Yuen Po Bird Garden in Mong Kok, Kowloon, you can see bird owners gathering to chat and share their “bird-rearing tips.” Various types of birds are also sold locally. If you want to experience a different side of Hong Kong culture, set aside a morning to soak in the charm here.
