20141016_M0401It was only on September 28 that I confirmed I’d be attending a class at the Handicraft Art Park on October 6.
October’s highlight is, of course, Halloween.
So the handicraft class informed us we should dress up.

With just a week to go,
it felt a bit rushed.
I originally thought of just buying something ready-made.
But after looking around, I just couldn’t find anything I really liked.
In the end, I decided to make my own.

After browsing quite a few DIY costumes,
I had a rough idea in my head.
So I quickly bought tulle, felt fabric, and some other materials.
(Recommended reading:)

I only used three colors of felt fabric.
Orange, green, and black.
As for the tulle, I only got orange and black.
The rest were things like styrofoam glue, elastic bands, needles and thread, etc....

In the days while waiting for the tulle to arrive, I started by sewing the pumpkin tote bag first.
All I needed to do was cut out a circle, a rectangle as long as the circle’s circumference, the pumpkin’s eyes, nose, mouth, and a leaf.
Then I sewed the long side of the rectangle along the edge of the circle.

After that, I sewed the two short sides of the rectangle and turned it inside out.
I cut a few holes at the top to thread through some rope.

Finally, I sewed on the leaf and attached the pumpkin face—done and done Up!!

This is how it looked after I modified the rope.

Next, I took an orange bunny plush toy
and glued on a pumpkin face to transform it.
(The left one is the same bunny plush in a different color before modification.)
Doesn’t it have a strong Halloween vibe after the transformation?!

I also cut out some pumpkin faces from orange felt fabric.

I bought a plain black top for 100 yuan
(Tong’s wardrobe had no solid-colored clothes)

Sewed on a pumpkin face and stuffed toys
Also added Tong’s English name on the chest

Stitched the classic Halloween phrase on the back
trick or treat
These English letters were the trickiest part of the whole outfit
No drafts, no font references
Just directly cut the felt fabric
Then sewed each letter one by one
So tiring!!
Actually, I could have used glue (much faster)
But I always thought this outfit might be reused
Sewing makes it easier to detach later

Finally finished the puffy skirt
After completion, glued on the felt pumpkin face

As for the puffy skirt method, please refer to last year’s Christmas article

After finishing the clothes, I thought some accessories or hairpieces were needed
So I sewed a 3D pumpkin (stuffed with cotton)

Then I rummaged through the wardrobe
Picked out an old, rarely worn pair of 7/8-length leggings
Cut the lace from the pant cuffs and added black tulle
And just like that, the pumpkin hairband was done

Thought to myself... how about adding a piece of jewelry on the hand
So I strung orange pumpkin beads onto a black ribbon
That simple

And then the full costume was complete!!

The night before trying the full outfit on Tong
I found some parts needed adjusting
The neckline was too low, so I added lace trim to the pant legs.
The headband was too dark, so I added some shiny beads.
The puffy skirt was too thin, and compared to last year’s, it was clearly lacking in tulle.
So I added some netting.
Since I worked on it overnight, I didn’t take any photos.

Completed Up!!
Isn’t it cute? ^^
I’m satisfied with the result myself.
And it looks great in the photos too.

Back view.
Because I had to wear the headband.
And the outfit is the main focus.
So I didn’t style my hair in any special way.

Headband.
It looks good in photos too.
(Halloween extended reading:)

Little girls just love puffy skirts.
Once she put on the puffy skirt, she kept spinning around.
She was also very cooperative, constantly posing for mommy to take photos.
You can see her joy and love for it.
Mommy is so happy.
The child loves it.
And after last year’s Christmas, she made another outfit herself.
Completely hand-sewn!!

It’s not that we don’t have a sewing machine at home.
It’s just that I’m not familiar with it.
I only take it out occasionally.
To be honest, this outfit didn’t really need a sewing machine anyway.
