French photographer captures children's genuine moments

Children are always photographers’ favorite subjects. They have no inhibitions, love your lens, and don’t know how to act artificially.

Every father always feels a sense of responsibility to document their child’s childhood moments, and photographer Alain Laboile is no exception. Since 2004, Alain Laboile has taken countless photos of his six children. The theme of these images all revolves around the daily life of their family at their home in southwestern France.

As both a photographer and a father, he doesn’t draw too sharp a line between work and family. This private collection of photos about his children’s lives has been shared publicly on his online platforms, allowing us today to witness the joy of their family life through the images.

While looking at these photos, aside from feeling the warmth of their family life, fragments of one’s own long-buried childhood memories also continually resurface.

We take photographs because we enjoy capturing fleeting moments, yet part of what moves people about photography also comes from revisiting the stories behind the images — a flavor sealed within the photos for a long time, yet forever fresh.

Alain Laboile’s family life is not particularly different from anyone else’s, yet this series gently touches the hearts of viewers. This power comes from the moments in the photos and the photographer’s skill, but even more so from the universal childhood memories reflected in those scenes.
