Alpineskiingis an extremely thrilling sport, and it’s very important to understand some essential basics before hitting the slopes.

First, you should carefully familiarize yourself with the altitude, width, length, slope, and direction of the ski run. Since alpine skiing is a high-speed sport, what seems far away can quickly be right in front of you. Without prior knowledge of the ski trail conditions, you may not have time to react if something unexpected happens—this is especially crucial for beginners.

Second,be aware of the operating hours of the ski lifts. Never ride them when there are no staff present, as they might be staff-only lifts used at the end of shifts. Once the staff reach their drop-off point, the lift stops running. If you’re left suspended in the air overnight, the risk of frostbite is very high.

Third, choose a ski run that matches your skill level—never overestimate your abilities and act recklessly. Progress gradually, and it’s best to hire a ski instructor.

Fourth,if you’re unsure about conditions ahead or feel that your equipment is acting abnormally, stop to check. Never take unnecessary risks.

Fifth, when skiing with others, always maintain a safe distance. Never speed down the slope just to catch up with your friends—it’s very easy to fall or collide with others, and beginners are especially prone to such accidents.

Sixth, when taking a break midway, always stop at the edge of the ski run, never under a steep slope, and stay alert to skiers coming from above.

Seventh,if you lose control and fall while skiing, quickly lower your center of gravity, sit back, avoid flailing, and try lifting your limbs while bending forward, letting yourself slide down gently. Avoid falling headfirst and absolutely avoid rolling.

Eighth, skiers with poor eyesight should not wear contact lenses while skiing. If you fall and lose your lenses, the chances of finding them are nearly zero. It’s better to wear glasses with frames and resin lenses, which are less likely to shatter upon impact.
