Baby Wen
Introduction
Baby Wen has recommended many free grassy spots for running around, and now adds another one: the Fu Dekeng Environmental Restoration Park in Taipei’s Muzha area. On holidays, there’s a super fun free sledding field here. The hardworking cleaning uncles usually on duty turn into volunteers who play with the kids on weekends, making the whole park super lively. Follow Baby Wen (bobowin) for some sledding fun.
There are about five sledding carts available for everyone to take turns using. You sign up by queueing – just register the first time you go down, and for subsequent runs, you can just join the queue. If you come on a weekday or prefer not to deal with crowds, you can also bring your own sledding cart.
If kids want to sled, they’ll have to pull the sled back up the slope themselves – great for building their stamina and independence.
The speed is moderate – even 1.5-year-old Manfu Bao fell in love after just one ride.
The uncles maintaining order and taking care of the sledding carts really work hard. With such an awesome sledding spot, don’t forget to say thank you to them.
Mommy Fu and Brother Fu dashed down first.
Then it was Baby Wen’s turn. Our family went sledding about 5–8 times – honestly, we lost count. Pulling the sledding cart is actually pretty tiring; better stock up on muscle patches for later.
When you find a big patch of grass, a picnic mat is essential. Our family sat on the grass having a picnic, watching golden retrievers run and the little ones play.
Energy-packed Brother Fu certainly couldn’t sit still, running all over the place.
Manfu Bao got super excited too, running and rolling down the slope. This area is also great for flying kites.
Heading uphill from the sledding field leads to Sun Square – a large flat grassy area. But you can see the “nightclub” from here, so skip it if that bothers you.
The view from up here is really nice.
There’s a huge expanse of grass, and compared to the sledding field, this area is much less crowded.
Sun Square features a landscape pond, bike paths, as well as indigenous-style stone tables, chairs, and ornaments.
The incinerator giraffe visible from the highway is even clearer from here.
The landmark of Fu Dekeng Environmental Restoration Park is this kite – you’ll only see it if you make it to the top.
The sledding field has portable toilets, and Sun Square also has washing facilities.
Finally, here’s a happy father-and-son photo with Baby Wen. We’ll definitely come back to challenge it again next time.
