The most easily forgotten, yet most important aspect concerning the safety of both the climber and the belayer—is climbing terminology!

As the saying goes, "Your life is your own, whether you speak up or not is entirely up to you"!

       Prepare to climb

B: Belay on— I’m ready to belay, you can start anytime!

C: Climbing—I’m good to go, let’s do this now. Watch me carefully, my life depends on you!

B: Climb—Go ahead, I’ve got you, no worries!

       During the climb

C: Tension—My arms are sore and my legs are shaking, pull the rope tight and let me rest for a bit, please!

Up Rope—What the heck?! The rope is so loose and you’re not taking it in? Are you trying to get me killed? (Definitely distracted by a pretty girl)

Falling—Ah!! You have to catch me!

Rock—Watch out!! Rocks are falling down, move quickly!

Slack—The rope is too tight, it’s stopping me from moving (or pulling me off balance and almost making me fall!)

B: (OK)—Got it, I heard everything you said, don’t worry!

       Rope lowering descent

C: Tension—I’ve reached the top, tighten the rope first, I’m getting ready to come down!

Lower Me—Okay, you can lower me down now, but take it slow.

       End of the climb

       C: Thank You

Four key points for using climbing terminology:

       Tone—Loud

       Pronunciation—Clear

       Speed—Concise

       Attitude—Serious

       ※Note: B = Belayer; C = Climber※
