Sensitivity refers to an athlete's ability to quickly change body position, switch movements, and adapt to changing situations. It is a comprehensive manifestation of sports skills and various qualities. Sensory qualities can only be achieved on a very solid foundation of sports skills.

       Climb different types of terrains

Longer routes build experience and skill

In fact, rock climbing to a large extent tests one’s ability to adapt to different routes. The more varied the styles of routes, terrain types, rock surfaces, and climbing methods you encounter, the faster your technique will improve. This is why many people come back from a single trip to Yangshuo seeming much stronger, and also why those who always climb fixed routes set by a particular route-setter at one crag improve very slowly.

To fully demonstrate sensory qualities, a considerable amount of strength and flexibility is also required.

Factors that affect flexibility, or the range of joint motion, include: the bony structure of the joint, the volume of surrounding tissues, and the elasticity of ligaments, tendons, muscles, and skin; among these, the last factor has the greatest impact on improving flexibility.

Flexibility can be improved through stretching

Flexibility depends not only on structural changes but also on the nervous system’s regulation of skeletal muscles, especially the coordination between relaxing and tensing opposing muscles. Improved coordination can ensure greater range of motion. Flexibility can be enhanced by lengthening muscles, tendons, and ligaments, using either explosive (sudden stretching) or gradual methods. Among them, the gradual method allows muscles to relax and tendons to stretch slowly, reducing the risk of injury.

       Gender comparison in flexibility

It is worth mentioning that flexibility can be divided into active flexibility and passive flexibility. Active flexibility refers to the range of motion a person can achieve using their own muscles, while passive flexibility is simply the maximum range a joint can reach without muscle effort. Generally speaking, females and young children have greater passive flexibility, but due to underdeveloped corresponding muscles, they often lag behind adult males in active flexibility. However, in any case, active flexibility cannot exceed the range of passive flexibility.
