The joy of traveling doesn’t always come from the places we visit—often, it depends on who we go with. Exploring mountains and rivers with friends, filling the journey with laughter and joy, is truly one of life’s greatest pleasures. And on every short trip, besides enjoying the scenery, we can also meet many interesting people and make new friends. Let’s follow a July 31 report from the U.S. Huffington Post to see how we can meet new companions along the way.
1. Card Games
While traveling isn’t as convenient as being at home, nothing beats the fun of gathering with others to play drinking games or card games. Cards are small, lightweight, easy to carry, and universally understood. On a trip, a deck of cards can be the perfect icebreaker between strangers.
2. Sharing Delicious Food
Sharing is a virtue. Being generous with food while traveling can quickly win over strangers. As the saying goes, “Only love and food are worth savoring,” and sharing food is also a way to share affection. After all, what could be more delightful than enjoying a great meal after a long day of travel?
3. Asking for Directions or Advice
“Where do locals go on Saturday nights?” “Can you recommend a good place for jogging?” “Do you mind taking a photo with me? I’m not into selfies!” These questions—whether asked on public transport, at local social events, or in a city you’re passing through—can help you make new friends. Kind-hearted people won’t turn down the chance to help, so why not use it to get to know them?
4. Starting a Conversation
“How did you two meet?” “Where are you from?” … Questions like these can serve as great conversation starters. If you see two people chatting, why not lower your guard and gracefully join in with something fun to say?
5. Posting on Social Media
Nowadays, many people like to share their travel plans on social media to attract other like-minded strangers to join them. Social platforms have wide reach and high visibility. Here, you can meet friends from all over. In the information age, the more open you are, the more friends you’ll have.
