Choose moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics. Many people opt for pure cotton when working out. In reality, while cotton absorbs sweat well, it’s not very breathable. Wearing it during summer workouts can easily cause heatstroke, and in autumn, it might lead to catching a cold. It’s recommended to choose polyester materials for both outerwear and undergarments, as they offer relatively better moisture dispersion and breathability.
Prioritize lightweight and safe options. Avoid wearing overly tight or heavy clothing during exercise; go for lightweight gear as much as possible. Otherwise, it can hinder movement and may even cause unnecessary bruises or poor blood circulation. For example, when playing basketball, wear loose clothes with wide collars and cuffs; when hiking, opt for pants that are elastic, thick, and have high surface friction to aid climbing and walking; for square dancing or aerobics, ensure the clothes have stretch; for weight training, elastic vests and loose shorts are good choices. Also, regardless of the activity, avoid wearing a belt.
Pick shoes according to your sport. Different activities place unique demands on athletic shoes for cushioning, grip, and flexibility. When running, shoes should be lightweight with strong shock absorption and sufficient elasticity in the forefoot area; tennis requires frequent sudden stops and turns, so good slip resistance is key; basketball involves a lot of jumping and impact, so focus on cushioning and wear high-top shoes to protect your ankles and reduce the risk of sprains; for indoor sports like badminton, prioritize flexible and lightweight shoes for quick movements.
Additionally, some sports require special protective gear. For instance, swimming calls for suitable goggles and swim caps. Goggles protect your eyes from pool chemicals, while swim caps prevent ear discomfort and shield your head. Don’t forget a helmet when cycling—it acts as a buffer in case of accidents, effectively reducing head injuries. When lifting barbells or dumbbells, it’s best to use wrist wraps and weight belts.
