If you’re around Zhongli in Taoyuan, you’ve probably noticed these vibrant pipes along the famous Old Street Creek recently—what’s the story behind them? Today, Rongrong is here to find out for herself. That’s right—these four pipes painted in bright, eye-catching colors are actually a slide that kids absolutely love. Come the weekends, it’s packed with people, and streets usually empty of cars are suddenly full of parked vehicles. And honestly, that’s no exaggeration at all.

The little ones also treat these four pipes as hide-and-seek spots, playing a game of tag. Once they crawl through the pipes, they’ll come face to face with four super-long slides, each about two stories high. Standing at the top and looking down, it does feel a bit high—but don’t worry, soft mats are placed underneath to ensure kids stay safe while having fun!
However, children under the age of 10 should be accompanied by an adult. It’s more suitable for the Up area this way. While the kids are playing, adults can also teach them the value of not pushing or cutting in line. After sliding, kids shouldn’t linger under the slide so the next child can use it smoothly and conveniently. It costs nothing, keeps the little ones entertained, burns off their energy, and lets the adults relax nearby—maybe scroll their phones, chat, or enjoy some snacks. Since we’re here, we definitely have to let little Yia expend some energy!
Honestly, this little girl has been full of energy lately, refusing to sleep until one or two in the morning. As her parents, we’re really at our wits’ end over this. Especially since Xiao Hai usually has to work during the day—it’s truly a dilemma. But seeing how happy she is on this trip really warms our hearts. Lately, she’s also been speaking more and more. It’s not like in the beginning when all she said was stuff we couldn’t understand at all. Now she’s picking up more and more words. Just yesterday, she surprised us all by suddenly saying her dad’s name—what a hilarious and heartwarming moment for our whole family.
Meanwhile, the construction of Laohexi is also meant to serve as an environmental education site themed around rivers. It aims to promote river education and help everyone learn more about the stories, ecology, and human history connected to rivers. It’s a very meaningful place. Next to the slide, there’s a brick bungalow that tells various historical stories and the evolution of Laohexi.

Due to the changes of the times, factory wastewater discharge and garbage pollution have become major threats to Laohexi. Stepping into this brick bungalow, you’ll see how beautiful Laohexi used to be and how it has changed today. It’s all here to encourage everyone to cherish a beautiful environment and prevent lovely rivers from disappearing.
Another red-brick bungalow also introduces the history of Laohexi but goes further to highlight the beautiful sights of Taoyuan and Zhongli, helping visitors appreciate the charm of Taoyuan and Zhongli even more.
