When you have two kids, there are inevitably some moments of waiting and boredom when you’re out. The most common scenario is at a restaurant—waiting for your food after ordering. When kids are bored, they naturally look for ways to entertain themselves. But when you're out and about, you don’t want them disturbing others. So I always keep a small pouch in my bag with little toys and activities to keep them occupied. After using this method for over a year, both my kids still really enjoy it—it might be a small idea worth sharing. I used to bring toys, but they take up too much space and weight, and sometimes the entertainment value doesn’t last long. That’s why I switched to my current approach.

It’s a very small zippered document pouch, only slightly larger than a pack of tissues. You can find similar ones at stationery or department stores—they’re cheap and handy. If you don’t want to spend extra, you could even repurpose an old makeup bag you no longer use.Little Essentials in a Mom’s Bag for Bored Kids on Outings

My pouch usually contains the following items: the two Frozen sticker albums are sticker collection books, a recent discovery that I’ll introduce in more detail later. The two small booklets are stamp cards given out during my child’s physical activity class—they’ve turned out to be surprisingly useful. Kids can draw or stick stickers in them when bored, or just browse through the designs. Rainbow-colored pens are inexpensive and great for coloring or drawing on the go. For stickers, I cut large sheets (as shown in the picture below) into smaller pieces and store them in ziplock bags. This helps control how many stickers the kids take at once and also makes storage easier.

Then, in the bottom left corner, there’s a pack of small balloons. I choose ones that don’t require a pump—kids absolutely love balloons and are often willing to behave just to get one.

The Frozen sticker album shown above has three layers: a sticker collection book, one laser sticker sheet, and one paper sticker sheet. The sticker album itself is about the size of a 4x6 photo—thin and lightweight, perfect for outings. I usually save those shiny, irregularly shaped stickers for special rewards when the kids are particularly well-behaved. The third layer, with the paper stickers, is easy to cut—I separate them into two or three sections and store them in ziplock bags. When we’re waiting and the kids are bored, I hand out two or three stickers for them to peel and stick. Peeling stickers is actually great for fine motor skill development, plus it’s cheap and enjoyable for them.
This is how I’ve divided up that three-layer sticker set—the silver laser stickers are stored separately, while the paper stickers are already cut and ready in storage bags. However, kids can get tired of the same things quickly, so I often prepare several different types of stickers. If they start losing interest in the ones in their bag, I put those away and swap in some they haven’t seen in a while. Rotating them like this is eco-friendly and keeps things fresh and fun.

These sticker types come pre-cut into individual pieces, so there’s no need for moms to cut them—super convenient. The kids don’t mind either; they’re just happy to have something to stick. The Disney princess stickers are also great—my two girls are total princess fans, and they light up whenever they see them. Plus, they’re all shiny laser stickers. These are just a few of the small items I often keep in my mom bag. Since they’re packed into a single pouch, it’s easy to switch bags or grab a small tote for a quick outing. Even when I’m out with friends who have kids, the children are always thrilled to get my stickers, and suddenly I become the “cool aunt.” Haha—this is an affordable, practical, and convenient little idea I highly recommend to everyone.
