In recent years, mural art villages have been emerging one after another across Taiwan. Some are created collaboratively by community residents, others meticulously painted by veterans of old military dependents' villages, and some are designed by renowned artists. Whether in simple rural styles or featuring adorable cartoon characters, they win the hearts of both children and adults, drawing visitors for photos and exploration and in turn revitalizing local development. Here’s a list of the top ten mural villages in Taiwan that are most suitable for families with kids, compiled by our editors, allowing children to experience real art up close—without the distance of museums or galleries—and to enjoy it even more.

Baobao Rock is located in the Gongguan shopping district. With many artists now based here, Baobao Rock has gradually transformed into an international art village, frequently showcasing a variety of artworks. In the entrance parking lot of Baobao Rock, you can also see simple yet charming murals of animals and figures. Although not numerous, these pieces carry an unpretentious and familiar charm and have become a popular spot for photos and social media check-ins.

Covering an area of about 1,500 pyeong, the murals include themes such as flowers and birds, landscapes, and cartoon characters, exuding a rustic local flavor. Many works also incorporate clever design elements, allowing visitors to interact with them and adding to the fun. In the most famous mural of oxen plowing a field, visitors can even pull the ox themselves and see the oxen’s eyes following them in the painting—very lifelike.
Address: No. 40-2, Lin Tou Qian, Kengkou Village, Luzhu Township, Taoyuan County (Chengsheng Temple, Kengkou Village)

Created by veteran soldiers, Rainbow Veterans Village features 50 meters of alleyways adorned with vibrant colors depicting people, animals, and various scenes. This once endangered site, facing demolition, has now been incorporated into a park, preserving this rare treasure.
Address: Chun’an Li, Nantun District, Taichung City

A must-visit destination for cat lovers. Students from National Huwei University of Science and Technology in Yunlin used the picture book “Cats on the Roof” as inspiration to transform the entire community into a three-dimensional pop-up book. Cats with a strong sense of dimensionality appear throughout the neighborhood, creating fun interactions with visitors.
Address: No. 56-2, Guo Xi, Dingxi Li, Huwei Town, Yunlin County

Xingang Bantou Village is a key hub for inheriting Taiwan’s temple ceramic art, especially the koji pottery and mosaic techniques. It is famous for decorating every corner of the village with koji ware and mosaic collages. The villagers use mosaics and koji pottery to create rural stories, mosaic patterns, or playful scenes of children on both sides of the walls. The village also offers garden tram tours.
Address: No. 42-3, Bantou Village, Xingang, Chiayi County

Tainan’s Rainbow Veterans Village is located in Fuxing Li, Yongkang District. The community mostly consists of narrow alleys, including one called "Touch the Breast Alley," which is so narrow that only one person can walk through at a time. The organizer led 40 seniors aged 70–90 to painstakingly turn decay into magic, transforming the uneven walls and low housing exteriors in the alleys into beautiful murals.
Address: Lane 423, Fuxing Road, Yongkang District, Tainan City

The Hu Family Community Mural Village was jointly completed by seven or eight adults and children who volunteered their time. What started as a spontaneous effort gained high praise from nearby neighbors. In addition to adorable Taiwanese black bears, Totoros, and Malay films, there are now also chibi versions of the Avengers and Luffy, as well as a variety of cute anime characters. As the mural-covered areas continue to expand, the village’s popularity keeps growing.
Address: Hucuoliao, Shanhua District, Tainan City

This once obscure little village gained fame thanks to a giant fluffy rabbit and the appearance of characters from Jimmy Liao’s picture books. Here, you can follow a little girl through the village alleys, learn to gaze at the Pacific Ocean like a sheep standing on the embankment, or feel the passionate drumbeats of the Amis people inside the houses.
Address: Sanxian Community, Chenggong Township, Taitung County

Thanks to sponsorship from a paint company, the old streets have received a colorful makeover, mainly on the walls of residences, as well as gazebos, footbridges, and more. Unlike other villages, this place features few cartoon characters but instead uses geometric shapes to create a feeling as if the community is shining—a true step into a fairy tale.
Address: Dawu Street, Dawu Village, Dawu Township, Taitung County

Compared to other mural villages, Penghu’s Xujia Mural Village leans toward realism. This is the historic house that served as the filming location for the movie “Osmanthus Alley.” Instead of cartoon characters, the murals depict Penghu’s local scenic spots—double-heart stone weirs, basalt columns, the cross-sea bridge, lighthouses, and yellow cows by the roadside.
Address: Xujia Village, Husi Township, Penghu County
