No way!* The slides at Zhongshan Elementary have been upgraded again!* Slides are truly irresistible to kids—the thrill of free-falling makes their little hearts soar.

Yilan has plenty of free attractions, and this post is an update on two spots: (the five slides at Zhongshan Elementary + the sandbox slide at Diudiu Forest), which are just a five-minute walk apart and both have parking—super convenient.

Both are near the perimeter of Zhongshan Elementary’s mini dome, located within the elementary school grounds, all within about 200 meters of each other. After playing, it’s just a 5-minute walk to the nearby JiMi Park.

First, let’s tackle parking. Search for: “Zhongshan Elementary Mini Dome.” There are tons of parking spots around here. Walk 2 minutes inside from the mini dome to reach the five slides, or head out to find JiMi Park’s “Diudiu Forest,” which has a sandbox slide and an old photo-op slide.

Right next to the mini dome is the massive cement slide called “Happy Island.” The kids playing here go all out!* Just a heads-up—don’t slide backward, as landing the wrong way could be serious!* Happy Island is a public art installation, not an official playground, so always prioritize safety and keep an eye on your kids.

This Happy Island slide is endlessly appealing to children—the thrill of free-falling makes their little hearts soar.

Walk another 200 meters and wow!* There’s a two-story, dual-track slide called “Sun Moon Star Slide.” Little ones can climb the roughly 200 steps while practicing counting “1, 2, 3, 4, 5…” Then—Whee!*—slide down happily. Bringing a cardboard mat is recommended to avoid getting stuck.

A bit further ahead, there’s a canned-shaped wooden play structure called “Train Slide.” There are stairs nearby for parents to take a break. Though it’s canned-style, it’s much safer for school-age kids. But really, these slides are just too enticing for kids.

This pirate ship slide has stayed in such great shape after four years—amazing!* There are two slides on each side, and inside the ship, there are small rope games like climbing walls and wooden stumps, plus cognitive play areas. There are also benches and floral identification signs around.

It’s actually right next to the Happy Island landscape, but maybe because canned structures are everywhere, it doesn’t get as much attention.

Cross the street from the mini dome to reach “Diudiu Forest,” then cross another street to get to Yilan Railway Station. So if you’re at Yilan Station, just walk through Diudiu Forest to reach the back entrance of Zhongshan Elementary—the whole route is super convenient.

The giraffe at Yilan Railway Station has arrived—the station suddenly sprouts a long neck. With sleepy eyes and a gentle smile, don’t forget to snap a photo when you pass by.

Across from Yilan Railway Station is JiMi Square’s “Diudiu Forest,” blending train ballads and green woodland imagery. The outdoor space lets you look up to admire JiMi’s work “Starry Starry Night,” where a dream-filled starry train sets off.

The girl and boy, and you watching them—don’t you also feel that rush of surprise and dreams? Hands pressed against the window, heads sticking out, enjoying the cool breeze, traveling together on a fantastical adventure.

At the end of the starry train is a small sandbox slide, which can probably fit only about five kids. But the kids who hang out here are surprisingly patient!* They won’t get bored for an entire hour—it’s unbelievable.

Don’t worry!* There’s a water tap nearby to rinse off.

Slides are endlessly appealing to kids—the thrill of free-falling makes their little hearts soar. I bet even slides for adults would be a hit.

Yesterday, I passed by Zhongshan Elementary and wandered in. Wow!* Near the JiMi area, there’s a huge slide. Keep walking—wow!* There’s a pirate ship slide. Look back—no way, there’s also an enormous cement slide coming down from the second floor of a school building.

Plus, there’s already one behind the performing arts center across the street, so within 200 meters, there are four big slides to enjoy. I immediately told myself: this afternoon, I’ll bring my two little piggies here to burn off energy.

First up, the giant pirate ship!* I’ve never seen a slide like this before. The little piggies were thrilled to play pirates, going “UpUp!” Of course, Dad was the pirate captain.

After warming up, we headed to the massive cement slide about 20 meters away. Compared to the kids’ size, just looking at it might be a bit scary.

This fearless one actually went down running for the first time.

What’s the best way to tire out kids? Climbing stairs!* They went up and down nearly fifteen times, climbing what felt like twenty floors.

Especially the one with shorter legs—climbing was especially tough for him.

Tired? Just look at how eagerly they’re drinking water to know the answer!

Had enough thrills? Time to get back to slides that suit their size — after all, they’re still kindergarten kids.

Judging by that soggy head of hair, we know she’ll sleep well tonight. Dad’s strategy worked!

There are lots of schools and students here, and the resources aren’t bad either. With four big slides so close by, I really wish I could go back to being a kid!
