Staying at a hotel with an unbeatable ocean view was one of our goals for our recent trip to Okinawa. As soon as you step out onto the balcony of your room, you’re greeted with a breathtaking ocean view that heals your mind and body, leaving you feeling recharged and ready to tackle life back in Taiwan.

However, beachfront hotels in Okinawa generally come with higher price tags. Based on Xiao Bu’s experience, the best time to book a beachfront hotel in Okinawa is after mid-May. By then, Japan’s Golden Week holidays are over, and prices usually drop or special promotions become available. Time your stay right and you can enjoy an ocean-view room at a discounted rate!

The Tsukihama Hotel in Ginowan is a highly popular beachfront hotel in Okinawa among families with kids. Its quality service, spacious rooms, and prime location keep it consistently in high demand. While the hotel doesn’t have many facilities—just an outdoor pool and a spa—it’s located in the heart of Ginowan, close to stores like Shimamura, supermarkets, and the large AAA department store, all of which are mom-favorites. In April and May, you can even snag a deal on a quadruple room for around ¥5,500!
The All Nippon Airways Manza Beach InterContinental Hotel looks like a luxury cruise ship docked by the coast when viewed from afar—an impressive sight. It’s very close to attractions such as Manza Beach, Manzamo, and Onna Coastal Park. Aside from an outdoor pool and a spa, the hotel also has a small cove for splashing around. There’s a shop and a children’s playroom (for a fee), as well as the Onna Morning Market. There’s also a convenience store near the entrance to Onna Beach Park, making it convenient for shopping. The beach offers plenty of water play equipment, and you can also rent small boats or other water gear.
The Orion Motobu Resort & Spa is a top choice for many families visiting Okinawa for its beachfront setting. It’s located in the northern part of the island, very close to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, making it convenient for travel around northern Okinawa. Whether you're heading to Kerama Islands or the aquarium, the kids can enjoy a fun-filled day before returning to the hotel to unwind and soak in the healing ocean views.
The Rizzan Sea-Park Hotel Tancha Bay is hailed by netizens as a great value-for-money beachfront hotel for families. It features a beach, indoor and outdoor pools, a playground, and even a game room in the restaurant. The hotel provides numerous entertainment options and complimentary experience vouchers. If you book breakfast but don’t use it, you can exchange it for a buffet lunch at the Blue Lagoon Restaurant. As an older property, its rates are considerably more affordable compared to other beachfront hotels.
The Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort, renovated in 2016, boasts a lofty lobby with a large seawater pool in the center. Many kids gather around the pool to watch the fish—it almost feels like an ecological observation tank. If you’re traveling with children, you can get fish food at the front desk to feed them. The outdoor pool also features two spiral slides!
The Okinawa Zamami Royal Hotel is located right next to the Okinawa Prefectural Museum (also known as the Gyokusendo Hall). It’s near the beach and close to Zamami Cape Lighthouse. Like the Tancha Bay Rizzan Sea-Park Hotel, it’s an older property, so its prices are quite reasonable.
Aside from the rooms, the other facilities at the Okinawa Zamami Royal Hotel are fairly decent. I really wouldn’t recommend staying in the room type we had—the mold smell was overwhelming and kept both my husband and me up all night (tearful). I saw online that rooms on higher floors tend to be in better condition and more recently renovated.
The Hilton Okinawa Kin Bay Resort is located right next to American Village. It’s just a five-minute walk away, and there’s currently a new commercial area being developed nearby, similar to an extension of American Village. There’s also a row of beachfront cafes nearby, and it’s an eight-minute walk to Sunset Beach. The hotel has an indoor pool and an outdoor pool with a children’s slide. Parking is free. You can enjoy ocean views and sunsets from your room—this is definitely a beachfront hotel in Okinawa worth spending a night at.
During this trip, we stayed at several beachfront hotels, including one night at a beachfront apartment (Beachside Condominium) in Kin Bay. Right across the street is Shimamura, and there are convenience stores nearby. It’s just a few minutes’ walk to Anrapo Park and the beach, where there’s also a giant boat-shaped play structure. The latest check-out time is 12:00 noon, and there are two free airport shuttle buses per day. The rooms are sea-facing and spacious. Though the decor isn’t particularly stylish, the apartment-style suites come fully equipped with all kinds of appliances—making it one of the top choices for families and snorkeling enthusiasts.

For our four-generation family trip, the last two nights were spent at the very popular Vessel Hotel Campana Okinawa next to American Village. This hotel is also well-known as a family-friendly property, offering free accommodation for children under 18 without an extra bed. It has a large ocean-view bathhouse for soaking. It’s just a one-minute walk to American Village, and there are two Lawson convenience stores and a Matsumoto Kiyoshi (on the second floor of American Village) nearby. AEON Supermarket is an eight-minute walk away. Recently, there’s been an increase in bars and restaurants, all within walking distance. Those without a car can take the Limousine Bus directly from the airport to the hotel entrance—it’s extremely convenient.
The Tilla SeaQ Resort Apartments are located on Zamami Island. The apartments sit on a hilltop on the island, offering views of the Zamami Bridge. The island is a 15-minute drive from the aquarium and also has Zamami Beach and Anti Beach for swimming. The Tilla SeaQ Resort Apartments are great for family trips. Each floor has two residential areas, each with its own living room and kitchen. On the day we checked in, we noticed a Taiwanese family that basically took up half a floor. It was lovely seeing everyone preparing and eating breakfast together.
