There’s a wonderful place in the National Museum of Taiwan Literature that’s perfect for bringing kids—“The Children’s Literature Reading Room.” I discovered it quite by accident, and this place is just amazing. On weekdays, you could easily spend the whole afternoon here.
As soon as you enter through the main entrance of the museum, you’ll see the Children’s Literature Reading Room Up on your right. It’s very easy to find and also a great community resource. Before entering, you need to draw a number (and return it to the volunteer staff when you leave).
The interior is so cozy, with both the furnishings and color scheme perfectly suited for children to read in.

The book collection here is incredibly rich and well-organized, even categorized by recommended age group. Parents can relax while accompanying their kids, and you might also find some great book sets among the collection. However, books in the reading room are not for borrowing; they’re for on-site reading only..
To maintain quality, the Children’s Literature Reading Room limits the number of people allowed at one time, with a maximum of 50(including parents and children). But since I always come on weekdays, it’s almost like having the place to myself.
The volunteers here are also very kind, and the overall atmosphere makes me want to bring my daughter Sarah here whenever I can.
Most of the books here focus oncultural themes, and are suitable forchildren aged 0 to 13to read. There’s also a dedicated area for children under 3 years old, which is fantastic.
The space is very thoughtfully designed, featuring Taiwanese children’s literature, reference books, children’s literature, youth literature, thematic recommended books, a parent-child reading area, and a periodicals section. Cultivating a love for reading in children is wonderful—I personally enjoy buying children’s books, and I found quite a few treasures worth collecting here. I ended up ordering some from the book list to take home.
Besides reading, there are often educational events to encourage children to love reading and develop an interest in literature. There’s also a little table where kids can freely draw. Crayons and other art supplies are available on-site, and drawing paper can be requested from the volunteer staff at the counter.

That day when we visited, I found this set of books absolutely captivating, so I picked one to read with Sarah. To my surprise, she was quite interested—it was an interactive, puzzle-based book. We ended up going through one after another, and before we knew it, we were immersed in the world of the Pupi Detective books.
Some areas of the Children’s Literature Reading Room require visitors to remove their shoes. Reading here feels like being at home, and the quiet environment also teaches children to speak softly in public places like libraries.
Friends in Tainan, this place is truly wonderful. Bring your kids here to enjoy the charm of books. A great spot for parent-child reading—sharing it with you all.
