The 2010 Miaoli Water Dance Carnival Opens in Grand Style!

After the water dance carnival at Mingde Reservoir first put Miaoli on the tourist map, this annual event has almost become synonymous with the mountainous city of Miaoli. This year’s water dance carnival not only surpasses last year’s scale but also features a performance platform stretching as long as 350 meters. In addition to the dazzling water dance and fireworks show on the lake, the shore-based events will feature performances by top-tier celebrities, bringing the event’s explosive energy and impact to the max!

The stage setup for the “2010 Miaoli Water Dance Carnival” includes the construction of a matrix-style water dance performance platform up to 350 meters long on the lake, uniquely combining water dance and flame effects in a synchronized dance. Multi-layered fireworks will burst simultaneously at varying heights, accompanied by a situational drama that integrates Miaoli’s tourism highlights and cultural elements, delivering spectacular light, sound, and artistic effects. This year also features a special display: water dance on clothing. The Miaoli County Government has specially appointed Miss Asia and model Lai Lin-en as the event ambassador. She will showcase an elaborately designed water dance costume infused with Hakka cultural flair, performing a unique catwalk on water. This Hakka-inspired plum blossom water dance outfit even has the magical effect of dancing along with the rhythm of the music.

This year, the Miaoli County Government has organized major themed events throughout the year, aligning with four key periods: the grand opening on February 6, the warm May themes of the Tung Blossom Festival and Mother’s Day, the summer rock season in August, and the national celebrations in October. These include special elements such as pop-classical crossovers, rock, and classic performances. Each evening event will feature performances by multiple music industry superstars from the Chinese-speaking world. With such rich content, the 9-month-long “2010 Miaoli Water Dance Carnival” aims to establish itself as Taiwan’s hottest travel destination.

The carnival opening ceremony will be held at 19:00 on the evening of February 6 at the Mingde Reservoir parking lot. In addition to the premiere of the super-sized water dance, there will also be a large-scale arts and culture concert on the shore, featuring the Grammy-nominated Ten Drums Art Percussion Group for a thrilling opening. This will be followed by a singing showdown among artists from Star and Super Idol, including A-Cheng, Fu Chiong-Yin, Jiang Ming-Juan, Sun Tzu-You, Pan Yu-Wen, and recently concluded Taipei Arena solo concert performer Xiao Jingteng, all gathering at Mingde Reservoir for a PK showdown. The spectacular program will run alongside the thrilling water dance. Following the exciting opening, starting February 6, water dance performances will take place every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 19:30 and 20:30.
