Spend Valentine's Day with Hello Kitty and Daniel on Enoshima

This year’s Valentine’s Day is extra festive with a strong Lunar New Year vibe—not only is the holiday period exceptionally long, but Lunar New Year’s Day also happens to coincide with Western Valentine’s Day. To mark the occasion, three companies in Japan’s Kantō region—Odakyu Electric Railway, Enoshima Electric Railway, and Sanrio Entertainment—are holding a “Hello Kitty and Daniel Welcome Event” on February 14 on Enoshima. Visitors can get up close with the beloved characters and enjoy the stunning sight of hundreds of crystal orbs transforming Enoshima into a “Lovers’ Island.”

Odakyu Electric Railway holds a “Special Welcome Event for Lunar New Year Travelers” every year during Taiwan’s Lunar New Year period. This year, as part of Japan’s national “Visit Japan Year” campaign, Odakyu has expanded the scale of its activities and travel pass usage period. The comprehensive campaign includes discounted travel passes and extended validity periods. It also features meet-and-greet sessions, photo ops, and small gifts at various locations such as Shinjuku, Hakone, Enoshima, Kamakura, and Samuel Cocking Garden.

Hello Kitty and Daniel will appear at three specific times: 11:00–11:30, 15:00–15:30, and 16:30–17:00. During the 15:00–15:30 slot, in addition to a talk show and photo session specially for overseas tourists, visitors who present a discount coupon downloaded from the “Shinjuku, Hakone, Enoshima, Kamakura, Ito Winter Campaign” website can enjoy additional benefits.

From February 6 to February 14, Enoshima also hosts a light-up event, where hundreds of crystal orbs are installed around the island, casting colorful beams to create a fantastical atmosphere, giving the impression of a “Lovers’ Island.” Though small in size, Enoshima is famous for its Enoshima Shrine, which is dedicated to commerce and prosperity. Since the Edo period, it has been a popular tourist destination for visitors from all over Japan, combining spiritual worship with leisure. To get to Enoshima, take the Odakyu Line from Shinjuku Station and get off at Katase-Enoshima Station—it takes about an hour and is very convenient.
