Join a local fishing boat and head out to sea to catch your own fish, enjoy the thrill of riding the waves, and then feast on the fresh catch once you're back on land.

The town of Hirado is located on the western side of Kyushu, on Hirado Island in Nagasaki Prefecture, connected to the Kyushu mainland via the Hirado Bridge. The fishing experience takes place at Shirakishi Fishing Port, about a 25-minute drive from Hirado City. Shirakishi Fishing Port is a quiet, countryside-style harbor surrounded by hills, with the beautifully designed Tsukihi Bridge nearby. Fishing here makes you feel like you have the entire scenic harbor all to yourself. The fishing grounds are just a 10-minute boat ride from the port. The boat operators provide essential gear such as rain boots, raincoats, and life vests. Before setting off, the young captain, Mr. Yoshihiro Hishika, will explain the fishing process and safety precautions. Then it’s time to head out fishing—Up, up, and away!! But if you’re expecting something like those Japanese TV shows where hosts join fishing boats to catch so-called “rare and precious fish,” you might be in for a surprise.

The fishing method used here is known as "set net fishing." This means that one or two days before the trip, fishing boats set up nets in the sea, strategically placing them based on the direction of ocean currents to guide fish and shrimp directly into the nets. The tourists joining the fishermen simply go out to sea to help haul in the nets and bring the catch ashore.
