Nestled on the 5th floor of Kyoto’s Jusho Building, this MERRY-GO-ROUND Carousel Bookstore has a whimsical, childlike name, yet inside it's warm and vibrant. The elegant store displays over 4,000 children’s books and picture books from around the world. This shop is actually a branch of a well-known picture book specialty store in Yono City, Mie Prefecture. The owner is a superfan of picture books with over 30 years of passion in the field. With great enthusiasm, he has invested heavily in bringing in a vast collection of picture books, hoping to open up the world of reading and knowledge for children through age-appropriate books. An active promoter, he also hosts various lectures and events, inviting many renowned authors to meet readers at the store. There are even classes in painting, calligraphy, and Shaolin kung fu. The store also features a small café — so if you get tired of reading, you don’t need to go elsewhere for coffee. For the owner, MERRY-GO-ROUND is about more than just knowledge and picture books; it’s a lifestyle.
