New Life Aesthetics: Hands-On Creative Exhibition at the LanYang Museum

To adapt to the humid and rainy climate, Yilan has developed architecture featuring sloped roofs, typhoon-resistant windows, along with extensive use of red brick, exposed aggregate concrete, and landscape-integrated plantings. Yilan-style houses utilize elements such as balconies, corridors, sheds, and courtyards to shape their spaces. In the trend of new life aesthetics, Yilan-style homes have become a form of public art atmosphere. The uniquely shaped LanYang Museum incorporates elements of Yilan-style houses while also featuring exotic aesthetic characteristics. Coupled with the ecological environment of the Wushi Reef Wetlands, viewed from afar, it resembles a monadnock emerging from the land.

This “Hand-Crafted Yilan: Yilan Life Aesthetics Special Exhibition” integrates local cultural essence with contemporary design aesthetics into home living, creating a unique new experience of life aesthetics for the people of Yilan. The event especially features works by local Yilan artists. The special exhibition area includes representative pieces from communities and organizations such as Xinyi Community, Pearl Community, Gangbian Community, Ewang Community, Erjie Community, Siyuan Community, as well as Jianhu Hall Cultural Association and the Ocean Culture Conservation Association. With the matchmaking power of communities and cultural centers, plus designers’ clever ideas about daily life, a variety of handmade works are on display.

Artisans demonstrate craft techniques inside the museum

From now until September 26, while showcasing exquisite artworks, the LanYang Museum also specially invites participating artisans to conduct craft demonstration activities inside the museum every other Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Through live demonstrations of how craft items are made, the museum highlights the unique handmade characteristics of Yilan. Additionally, until September 19, DIY activity courses featuring the cultural characteristics of various communities will be held, including mosaic coasters, paper handmade books, straw trinkets, net weaving crafts, and plant-dyed hand towels—allowing the public to experience the diversity of Yilan’s local culture.
