Guardian of FORMOSA Butterflies: Special Exhibition on Taiwan, the Kingdom of Butterflies
Taiwan is honored as the "Kingdom of Butterflies," once exporting butterfly products worth up to 30 million US dollars, ranking first in the world. It is home to nearly 400 species of butterflies, but many are now facing the threat of extinction. The Insectarium at Taipei Zoo has launched the "Butterfly 'FORMOSA!' Special Exhibition on Taiwan, the Kingdom of Butterflies" to introduce the island's butterfly species to the public, explore the beauty of Taiwanese butterfly crafts, and promote ecological awareness and care for the Earth.
This year marks the third consecutive year that TOYOTA has partnered with the zoo to host the Butterfly Month event, providing funding of 3 million over three years to support research teams studying Taiwan’s butterfly ecology. Through sponsorship, adoption, and conservation efforts, TOYOTA contributes to environmental protection. The butterfly crafts featured in this exhibition represent the largest display of their kind in Taiwan, including butterfly-decorated panels, butterfly wing decals, plastic butterfly ornaments, and explanations of their production processes.
In 2010, TOYOTA’s “Butterfly Guardian Story: The Secret Garden of Enchanted Spirits” features the “Butterfly 'FORMOSA!' Special Exhibition on Taiwan, the Kingdom of Butterflies” from July 3 to December 31 at the zoo’s Insectarium. Parents can bring their children to explore the Kingdom of Butterflies, learn about Taiwanese culture through various exhibits, and participate in hands-on butterfly DIY craft activities to instill environmental values and foster a deeper appreciation for Taiwan’s ecological beauty.
During the summer vacation, Taipei Zoo will host the "Butterfly Summer Camp" every Saturday and Sunday. Visitors who complete a butterfly knowledge card will have the chance to win great prizes such as 3M water purifiers and Philips home lighting.
