Explore the North Coast: Old Caoling Bicycle Tunnel Extended Hours on Holidays

Taiwan’s hottest biking spot, the Old Caoling Tunnel, has spearheaded a five-star cycling trend in the Northeast Coast. Designed with the concept of a railway museum, the tunnel’s roadway mimics railway tracks, evoking the imagery of an old train line. Lighting fixtures feature vintage-style oil lamp shades, while the tunnel’s emergency escape hatches are used to recreate the sounds of trains passing by, complemented by displays of discarded railway artifacts. Cycling through the Old Caoling Tunnel, with the sounds of a train journey echoing around, feels like riding through a cool, nostalgic railway tunnel—both retro and fun.

During the summer vacation, most visitors choose to cycle during the cooler evening hours. The Old Caoling Bicycle Tunnel was originally open daily from 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM. However, from July 16 to September 15, during regular holidays, the tunnel’s opening hours will be extended to 06:00 PM, giving cyclists a more relaxing pace to enjoy the scenic beauty of the mountains and sea.

In summer, the tunnel experiences high humidity due to condensation caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside. Both the walls and the floor are much damper than outdoors, so riders should exercise caution, use bike lights and bells, and wear helmets.
