Lantern Festival in Kaohsiung: Lucky Rabbits & Heart-Shaped Fireworks Light Up the Sky for 17 Glorious Days

The theme of the 2011 Kaohsiung Lantern Festival Art Festival is “A Century of Harmony, Rabbits Leaping to New Heights.” This year’s lantern display area is the largest in history, and the harborfront fireworks—a first in Taiwan—stretch approximately 500 meters. Featuring adorable and auspicious rabbit-shaped fireworks, the atmosphere reaches a fever pitch. The show kicks off with rockets trailing fiery tails on both sides, creating a crisscrossing web of brilliant sparks. Dozens of chrysanthemum-style fireworks then bloom like flowers across the sky, while cube-shaped hibiscus fireworks and five-pointed star bursts take center stage. Weekday and weekend shows differ dramatically, and Valentine’s Day features heart-shaped fireworks, smiley face fireworks, and ring-shaped fireworks, delivering an incredible three-dimensional audiovisual spectacle.
