Japan’s southern island paradise, Okinawa, has long been a renowned vacation destination. Aside from cherry blossoms, what other beautiful flowers are worth seeing? The gorgeous azaleas are another great option. Starting in March, Higashi Village’s azalea season will kick off.

The main venue, “Azalea Garden,” features 50,000 azalea plants and views of the Yambaru region. The adjacent “Azalea Eco Park” offers camping facilities for accommodation. Every March, Higashi Village hosts an Azalea Festival. Higashi Village is located on the eastern side of the northern part of Okinawa Island in the Okinawa Archipelago of the Ryukyu Islands, with the azalea as its village flower. The local industries mainly revolve around pineapple and sugarcane cultivation. The entrance fee for the Azalea Festival is 300 yen for high school students and above.
In addition, nature enthusiasts visiting Higashi Village should definitely check out Lake Fuchi. Consider taking a nature observation boat cruise around Okinawa’s largest reservoir. The walking trails around Lake Fuchi are also a popular spot for a nature walk, and there’s an information center that provides detailed insights into the natural ecology of Lake Fuchi and its surroundings.
