Singapore’s world-famous landmark—the Merlion—undergoes a dramatic transformation this year. Starting March 13, it debuts as “The Merlion Hotel,” a unique art concept that turns this iconic tourist symbol into a temporary hotel suite, allowing visitors to get up close with the Merlion and spend the night.

The Merlion’s transformation is one of the many intriguing installations at this year’s Singapore Biennale, organized by the Singapore Art Museum. From now until March 9, the Merlion in Merlion Park is shrouded in curtains as the disguise work is carried out under safety considerations. From March 11 onward, the new look of “The Merlion Hotel” will be gradually revealed, and it will be open to the public for free visits daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. between March 13 and May 15.

From April 4 to May 5, visitors can also stay overnight. Check-in is from 8:30 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. the next day, with the double room including breakfast priced at SGD 150 (approximately TWD 3,480). Due to overwhelming popularity, bookings are now fully booked. After the event, the Merlion will undergo restoration from May 16 to June 5, and will revert back to its world-famous status as a Singapore landmark on June 6.
