141 Harvest Festivals: Tribal Celebrations Across Eastern Taiwan in July

Summer vacation is about to begin, and the Aboriginal Harvest Festivals (Harvest Festivals) of various ethnic groups in Taitung County will also start with the Jianong Tribe Harvest Festival in Taitung City on July 3 and continue until early September, with a total of 141 events, each lasting between two to eight days. Among them, the Kadibu Paiwan Harvest Festival in Taitung City on July 14, the “Makabahai” Cultural Tourism Event on July 16, and the Eastern Rukai Harvest Festival of the Dongxing Tribe in Beinan Township on July 22 are three larger-scale festival events.

The Amis celebrations start with the Jianong Tribe in Taitung City and the Qilin Tribe in Chenggong Township on July 3, followed by the Toyota Tribe, Malaulau Tribe, Jialulan Tribe, Dulie Tribe, Xiaoma Tribe, Heping Tribe, Donghe Tribe, and Xingchang Tribe, and will conclude with the Wild Tribe in Meihewu Village, Taiwu Township on September 9. The Kavalan Tribe has scheduled the Kavalan Tribal Sea Festival at the Kavalan Activity Center in Changbin Township on July 7. The Paiwan celebrations start with the Lubakka Tribe in Beili Village, Taiwu Township on July 10 and end with the Long Tribe in Duoliang Village, Taiwu Township on August 6. Additionally, to strengthen bonds among tribal members, the Daramak Tribe in Dongxing Village, Beinan Township, Taitung County, will hold a Harvest Festival at the Daramak Cultural Square in Dongxing Village on July 22. The Taitung City Government will organize the 14th “Makabahai Cultural Tourism Season” from July 16 to 24, including an opening ceremony and cultural experience camps.

The Paiwan Tribe's celebrations also begin with the Lubakka Tribe in Beili Village, Taiwu Township on July 10 and conclude with the Long Tribe in Duoliang Village, Taiwu Township on August 6. In addition, to foster connections among tribe members, the Daramak Tribe in Dongxing Village, Beinan Township, Taitung County, will host a Harvest Festival at the Daramak Cultural Square in Dongxing Village on July 22. The Taitung City Government will hold the 14th annual “Makabahai Cultural Tourism Season” from July 16 to 24, featuring an opening ceremony and cultural experience camps.
