2018 Taipei Lantern Festival’s Hottest Highlight: A Huge Pikachu Invasion

Taipei Lantern Festival’s most adorable surprise Easter egg is officially revealed. Pokémon fans no longer need to fly to Yokohama, Japan, or wait until summer to travel far and wide for the “Pikachu Outbreak” event. An officially licensed Japanese production, featuring real-life Pikachu performances, will be showcased at the Taipei Lantern Festival’s opening light-up ceremony on February 24. Additionally, there will be an extra performance after the street parade and light-up event on March 3, which will also include a fan meet-and-greet.

A total of six Pikachu will take part in the Taipei Lantern Festival, representing the international phenomenon “Pikachu Outbreak” in real life. They will appear during the opening light-up ceremony on the evening of February 24 and the post-parade light-up event on the evening of March 3, transforming Taipei West District into a giant Pokémon dojo.

In response to Taipei’s highly anticipated festival, the official “Pokémon” team from Japan has not only brought the overseas “Outbreak (Discovery)” event to the Taipei Lantern Festival, but this is also the first time in Asia that Pikachu has been incorporated into a festive costume performance.

In addition to performing at the opening light-up ceremony of the Taipei Lantern Festival at the Ximending Performance Area on the evening of February 24, Pikachu will make another appearance after the street parade and light-up event on March 3. A fan meet-and-greet will be held after the performance, offering the chance for close interaction with Pikachu.
